Page 95 – Loretta Diaz
Finally we get to see some of Loretta . She’s only shown up a few times in the last 95 pages, but plays such a huge role in the tale of Sabrina Ultragirl Mancini . As you can see, she plays it cool, not letting the fans get to her and they’re letting her know that they don’t like her, but she’s sticking to her entrance and showing off some flexibility. Things are looking good for Loretta, and she’s very confident.
We also get some real information on the TV tournament! We get who’s in it, well mostly. Also, the Bonus Life Battle Royal . 10 girls in the ring at the same time, all trying to throw each other over the top rope. The winner is the last one standing and they get another chance for the TV tournament, making one of the semi-final matches a three way dance, which is similar to the fatal four way, but with one less person. Obviously. 😛
Next update we get Sabrina’s entrance!
nothing much to say here…surely I’m not a Loretta Diaz fan, no music entrance of her either.. no one really supported Loretta Diaz.. Too Bad.. and the audience really boooo’ed her…
Just one question though.. Loretta Diaz stats? weight, height, wrestling style? Let me guess, is Loretta uses power, speed and flexibity in wrestling? coz remembering what happen to Krystin. and what Krystin said in episode 20 “Loretta Diaz drop me on my head, I’m lucky to not have a concussion”
by the way.. the tournament card.. Cat smith? is it an error… there. it should be Katherine “Kat” Smith.. 😀
But I say… HOLY!!!!!T.V. Tournament bracket had shown.. Thanks….
I think on the last bracket
“Red Jen” Jennifer Needles VS “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini
but “Red Jen” Jennifer Needles will destroy, squash, crush “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini.. hahahhah.. 😀
Josephine York and Franchesca York are they sisters? why better off in tag team I think..
So making one of the semi-final matches a three way dance? so which means the winner of this match will be the new Rival Angel’s T.V. champion? let’s Say.. Katherine Smith VS Jennifer Needles VS Rampage… the winner of that match will be T.V. champion?
let me guess on Rampage? 350 pounds, and her finishing move is “Gore” 😀
Zombie Luna? is she like the lady undertaker.. heheheh
By the way, are we gonna see the Bonus life battle royal.. in full detailed action? nice name by the way… Bonus life..
What a teaser.. the T.V. Belt.. 😀 it’s like the intercontinental belt.. hahah… how about the Rival Angel’s Heavyweight belt.. is it a turntable like? I mean like John Cena’s belt..hahahah
I’m excited to know the other wrestler’s stats…
Just because Loretta’s entry music isn’t written out in the panels doesn’t mean she doesn’t have any…
I think Loretta’s attitude calls for something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS8s0Af4x3w
Nice touch on the bracket, Albone. Bonus Life is indeed a cool name for the Battle Royal. Of course, it’s not so cool for the two contenders in round two who have to deal with a second opponent in the mix. Will we be seeing the criteria for which match gets turned into a three-way dance ahead of time?
Let’s say Loretta Lose against “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini.. will we ever see Loretta Diaz in the future?
I really like Loretta’s pose in panel 3 and Panel 6:
Loretta is poser, what she needs is paparazzi to shot her photos..
Loretta is too relax on her match.. I think she should think what Sabrina will do to her.. base on the 3 winning streak, I know Sabrina learn alot of Loretta’s mistake and surely capitalize on it. or maybe The Hell’s Belle told Loretta to be relax, coz even if Sabrina win.. they’ll gonna injure Sabrina after the match..
TV tournament, link broken? or it’s not a link..the fonts just bold?
Yeah!! the link is working… VERY NICE WORK!!!! DAMN!!! Profiles are great…. Thanks for sharing…
Katherine Smith or Catherine Smith?? uhh? which is the correct one?
In round two they will have triple treat match? so what’s round 3? What a cool tournament. never saw this happen in WWE.
so excited…
“Looks as cool as the other side of the pillow” has got to be one of the best lines I’ve read in a while. Certainly a gem!
Just for you MGC, Loretta’s stats are 5’9″, 140 pounds. She’s a technical wrestler with a fondness for holds and locks. 🙂 Don’t worry about Loretta going anywhere, she’s going to be around for a while. Thanks for the catch with Katherine’s name. I’ve always been goofing that up since I started.
Yep, the Yorks are sisters, actually, twin sisters! They fancy themselves as a tag team but who wouldn’t go after the TV belt if the opportunity presented itself?
The winner of the Bonus Life Battle Royal gets into round 2 making that a three way dance. Round 3 is for the TV championship itself, so Jen and Kat can’t have a 3-way dance. Rampage is a big gal, but not quite 350. AND she wears a luchadore mask! Your thoughts are in the right vein with Zombie Luna. She’s always a good time around Halloween. I haven’t written the Battle Royal yet. I figure a page will go to introducing the participants but I’m not sure how many pages will go into the actual Battle Royal. Glad you like the look of the TV belt! I’m happy with how it looks. The world title does NOT have spinning center. 😛 It’d be more like CM Punk’s title. Glad you’re excited about the tournament!
JackAce, I think we have Loretta’s entrance music. Thanks! It’s hard to convey that there’s music going on in the comic, but she does have an entrance theme and jumbotron and now we know it’s Missy Elliot’s WORK IT!
Thanks Justin! The winner of the Battle Royal gets to pick which bracket or match to become a part of. You can imagine that there coulc be some politicking going on immediately following the Battle Royal.
Ninja’d by Scraps! I’m glad you enjoyed the commentating gem by Dawn. 🙂 The commentators are a blast to write for.
Thanks for Sharing to us Loretta stats… and forgot to ask about her finishing move? what’s Loretta finishing move?
It’s a shame Krystin “The Definition of Technician” Moline loss to Loretta.. their both a technical wrestler. and Krystin is the “Definition of Technician” ..
That’s why Sabrina loss to Loretta straight matches.. Loretta really grounded Sabrina. it’s kinda like when Sabrina ultrakick Loretta. Loretta grabs Sabrina’s leg then used to to execute a figure four. and pluss Loretta got the height and weight advantage and plus the flexibilty.. Loretta really stopped Sabrina on her tracks. stopping Sabrina’s advanatage in speed and flying manuvers.
I think, Sabrina’s gonna win this match..
Hmmm.. must of the wrestlers who are in the TV tournament are technical…. Jennifer Needles is technical? I thought she’s a balance type. and Sara Valentine a technical? I thought she’s a high flyer?
So, do I understand it correctly that the four losers of the first round turnament matches get to compete in the battle royal along with those listed in the bottom of the page?
Also, I expect the listed Battle Royal participants are all wrestlers who didn’t quite make the cut for the regular turnament. So will the loser of the Sabrina/Loretta match get into the Battle Royal as well?
LOL!
A friend of mine just sent me this link:
http://www.chilloutzone.de/files/08080103.html
LOL!! Thanks for sharing JackAce..got Buried alive with a steelchairssss.. :p
If Rival Angels have a hardcore match, and audience can give steelchairs to their favorite wrestler.. kinda nice.. hahha.. Cool
MGC, Loretta’s finisher is the pedigree, which she’s used on Sabrina before and most likely used it on Krystin. Actually both Jennifer and Sassy are more balanced, but I was unsure of listing that because while Technical makes sense by reading it, I didn’t know if Balanced would make as much sense. That being said, I think Sassy’s more of a mat wrestler.
JackAce, actually the four losers do NOT get placed into the Battle Royal. The thinking is that they had already had their chance. You are on the money with the participants of the Battle Royal, they were good, but just didn’t make the cut to make it into the tournament. It’s undecided whether the loser of the Sabrina/Loretta match will get a spot in the Battle Royal. Technically, they would not, but Gabrielle has been known to trump rules like that before.
Thanks for that awesome clip from early days of ECW! Just awesome.
Reading back… Sabrina and Jennifer Needles went the same academy in Biloxi? so which means.. Sabrina and Jennifer Needles already fought each other in Boloxi? and Jennifer Needles fought against Loretta Diaz?
and Katherine Smith and Xtina Carpenter same school Dark Angel Academy.. so Katherine and Xtine already fought each other before?
Ah! The “second chance” part kinda threw me off there…
Yep! Sabrina and Jennifer attended the same academy but Jennifer was gone before Sabrina arrived. Now Jennifer and Loretta…. Kat and Xtina know each other and have fought before.
JackAce, I think I could’ve worded that better so no worries. I think I was going to have them in it, but decided against it so you’re were at least half right. 😛
Okay… time for the next analysis. TV Tourney Time.
First up: Final bracket filling match, Diaz v Ultragirl. Ulrtragirl has had the sort of wake up her coach in the earliest comics gave her to get her ready to go to the big leagues and it got her where she needed to be. That motivational wake up is going to carry Ultra girl to victory at last, as well as helping her shake a mental block on beating Diaz. I get the feeling that Diaz won the first match by being more experienced than Ultragirl and then just got in her head and beat her mentally rather than by being better ever since. This time, Ultragirl is ready and it’ll be a different match.
VICTOR: Ultragirl
And now… for the tourney
Match 1: Rumble v Smith. Sorry. Hell’s Belles are just too together for little Miss Rumble to pull off a victory. Kat Smith will dominate, and if she doesn’t, her faction will provide the assist at a good time. Either way, Kat is moving on.
VICTOR: Kat Smith
Match 2: Buckingham v York. I’m going out on a limb here. There’s a lot of power been showing up and the technical sorts have had some issues. I just have a feeling that Miss York is going to show the other techs we’ve seen how to play that sort of game and poor Buckingham is going to suffer. Add to it a sister that is likely to get involved and look for York to advance.
VICTOR: J. York
Match 3: Valentine v Carpenter: As much as I feel the schoolgirl pulling one off, I just can’t seem to shake that her recent loss will have her off her game and Carpenter is going to pull a win here. I have a feeling that this is going to be one of the closest matchups of the first round.
VICTOR: Carpenter
Match 4: Needles v Ultragirl. Now -this- is going to be a brutal matchup. Ultragirl will not give an inch and with the stance of Hell’s Belle’s about Ultragirl going on in the tourney, she’s going to be in a lot of trouble here. I see a hard fought match with the Belles interfering and setting Ultragirl up for a loss with some skilled attacks. Unfortunately for poor Jennifer, Diaz strikes me as the sort to hold a grudge and she’ll attack as well, and where the Belles will do it well, Diaz will do it badly and get Needles DQed.
VICTOR: Ultragirl.
Thanks to the interference, Jennifer Needles will be added to the Battle Royal to give her a last chance to get that title, leading to some really nasty possibilities depending on how the semi final matches go.
Now, assuming that I was right on the first round, I’ll do a FAST summary of the rest of the tourney:
Match 1: Smith v York. VICTOR: Smith (Belles and F. York both make appearances)
Match 2: Carpenter v Ultragirl: Ultragirl. Totally clean match. Lots of good action.
BATTLE ROYAL: Jennifer Needles, with help.
TV TITLE: Ultragirl v Needles v Smith. 2 members of Hell’s Belles working together for some serious abuse. Ultragirl wins however, because the two Belles will both want the pin.
I like how you used the Rival Angels’ silhouette in the brackets.
I also liked the ‘cool as the other side of the pillow’ remark.

@Salazen:
VERY NICE!!! I really like the analysis.. Thanks
I have different Match 4:
(IMO) “Red Jen” Jennifer Needles will crush “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini. coz stakes a bit high for Sabrina. in the fatal four, Sabrina.. Almost loss.. so I don’t think Sabrina can handle the pressure on this.. and surely Hell’s Belle won’t be like Loretta’s clumsiness hitting Sabrina at the back making her angry. surely Hell’s Belle will use mindgames on Sabrina.
and considering the comic pattern. Sabrina is undefeated yet, and her skills are limited at her point to be T.V. champion.
(IMO) “Red Jen” Jennifer Needles win against “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini
Hell’s Belle fan… 😀
A first… none of the Upstarts are in this episode. Very good setup for what the future holds, very much in the ‘show, don’t tell’ storytelling model. Loretta’s entrance shows confidence and arrogance, you are good at bringing out these aspects in what are deceptively simple panels, Alan. The announcers are a hoot as always and I’m sure they’ll return to their flip flopping ways real soon.
In the previous match I didn’t dislike Sara, I just liked Sun more. This time around, if there is any justice, Loretta is gonna lose. Loretta probably doesn’t know about Marina’s pep talk and is thinking Sabrina is going to be a rerun. I’m thinking this will be a tough, grueling match in which the girl who can keep it together when both are tired and hurting is going to win. In retrospect last week’s ( comic time ) fatal four way was just a warm up…
Sabrina needs to come up with a victory line, it’s hard to out-do Sun’s “Ninja’d!!”.
I look forward to each episode, this is going to be first rate.
I have to disagree, M.G.C., for a very simple reason: think how often people have commented on how good Ultragirl is. She hasn’t shown it yet in the Angels, but check page one and two again. Look at the superkick she pulls, and the sweet slam to set up her finisher. Check her coaches attitude on pages 4 and 5. That ‘I told them you didn’t have a prayer’ looks like he’s being sarcastic to make her realize she -is- that good and he knows it. She’s not angry after his words, she’s embarrassed. This TV title is where we finally get to see just how good Ultragirl really is.
And that doesn’t even include the whole ‘she’s the main character’ part. If she loses, it’ll be during the title match, and then I suspect it will only be if she faces two people that don’t work together. If both the Yorks make it, or I turn out to be right about the DQ and insertion of Jen in the Battle Royal and two Belles are in it, then she wins. If it’s two more random sorts, then one of them will work with Sabrina on the third, and then backstab her to steal the title.
Great predictions and observations Salazen! I like the thinking behind your picks and appreciate you sharing them with us! Great points too, in thinking why Sabrina could do well and going back to the beginning of the comic. I did goof in the explanation of the Battle Royal in that the winner gets inserted into the second round of the tournament making it a three way, as opposed to Round 3 (the finals) and everyone that is in the tournament is ineligible for the battle royal. In the scheduling, Kat and Monica are going to fight in the main even on this current card. Then the next card, we’re going to open with the Battle Royal, followed by the other first round TV tournament matches, and I didn’t share that before so apologies. I’m curious to how you may tweek your picks in light of that! Again, great points, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks A Mouse and great catch on the silo I used. It seemed like the thing to do. 😉 I’m glad you enjoyed Dawn’s comment too, Jeff usually gets the good lines like that, but it seemed appropriate for Dawn.
MGC, huge pressure on everyone surrounded in the TV tournament, whether you’re in the tournament, in the battle royal, or just trying to qualify, especially for a rookie like Sabrina. Like you mention, she hasn’t handled it well, so we’ll have to see if Marina’s talking-to had any positive effects.
Roller Derby Fan, I’m thrilled you liked the page and what it was showing. It makes me think you’ll enjoy Friday’s update as well. And though it won’t happen right away, expect a new dimension in the announcing flip flopping. 😉 You guessed Loretta’s mindset perfectly and she doesn’t know about Marina’s talk, but I think even if she did know, her attitude would be unaffected. And she’s not entirely wrong for being confident, she does have three wins over Sabrina, though that was back in a different time. I’m not sure I can top NINJA’D, but yeah, it’d be cool if Sabrina had something catchy for victory as well. XD Thanks for being part of the ride!
In a way, I think I’d prefer if Sabrina lost this match.
Not because I somehow dislike Sabrina, but simply because I’d *really* like to see her in the Battle Royal 😉
At the moment, I’m not adjusting things. The Schoolgirl seems to be the sort to take a loss to a rookie personally and have it shake her game. Look at the way Chris Jericho broke down in WCW before he became Y2J. I can see her doing something like that until she can get another win. She likely glorifies in her wins and takes her losses HARD.
On the other hand, I may make adjustments after seeing Kat and Monica. It’s one thing to look at the bio. It’s another to have a match to scout too. 😉 Look at Krystin as a perfect example of that. Her bio reads like a young Bret Hart. Her matches have looked more like Disco Inferno. 😉
JackAce, I could see what you’re saying. Actually, I’m still working out how to best show a battle royal…! But I think it’ll be cool.
Right on with sticking to your guns Salazen! You are not far off the mark with Sara Valentine, she loves her some wins and hates losses with a passion! Nice comparison with Krystin too, and I loved the Disco reference. Too funny! I’m thinking after this fight card and maybe after the battle royal, I’ll have to have a contest to see who guesses the brackets correctly. 😉
So apparently, Loretta Diaz’ entrance is the same as WWE’s Layla’s entrance.
