Chapter: Chapter 19 - The Big Night
Characters: Chloe De Sade, Sabrina Mancini
Amazing how hard two little words is to say. How much pain and distress they cause, and it all can end with one of them saying, ‘I Quit.’ We know Sabrina is double tough, but Chloe is showing she’s tougher than a $2 steak.
Voting Incentive!
A familiar theme for De Sade, but from a different perspective. Vote to see a preview of Monday’s update!
Amazing page. She’s still going! GO, SABRINA!
And yeah, that’s never been true. Ever since she first heard the name, Chloe’s been afraid of Sabrina.
I think Chloe’s mixed up and wants Sabrina to be afraid of her but she has never made Sabrina fear her just made her angry.
I think Chloe’s nose just got broken. So much for her “perfect” profile.
Sabrina is determined to give as much as she took…can’t say I blame her.
The truth hurts don’t it 🙂 It’s the right hand of “Believe it” and the left hand of “Bet that hurt”. Now, say those two words and it will all be over soon.
I think Chloe’s little monster is finally hatched. I’m starting to wonder if it’s going to take Sun coming down and telling Sabrina that she’s going too far to finally end this.
PS – I love Panel 3
Sun saying it’s gone too far? That’s an interesting idea.
Well, think about it. Sabrina’s tried to be Sun’s little conscience voice… but now she may need someone to stop her from going too far and becoming like Chloe.
They’re in an I Quit match. As long as Sabrina quits when Chloe says “I Quit,” there is no such thing as too far.
How’s the old saying go? “Battle not with monsters, lest you become a monster. And if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”
My sentiments exactly. She needs to be the better person she once was, before Chloe started to wear her down.
Another view of ‘Brina I wouldn’t mind.
*ahem*
Without the pummeling o’ course.
😛
Heheee Yeah maybe. The problem is how she’d advance her position. We know she’s not going to get you with a school girl pin.
I think she’s telling the truth… in that she’s not afraid of Sabrina specifically, as a person.
Her expression says to me that she’s afraid of the future Sabrina represents, of she herself not being the face of the company anymore. Just how old *is* Chloe? Well into her thirties, probably closer to forty than thirty I’d guess, and least five years older than Brenda, Black Widow or Yvonne. And Sabrina is… 19, 20? Wow – if I’m right, then Chloe is probably just about old enough to be Sabrina’s mother. To see the hot new thing on the block, getting pushed to the moon in favour of you despite all your accomplishments, and think… she’s young enough to be my daughter? Where did my time go? When did I stop being her?
I think Chloe is very, very afraid of what Sabrina will do to her, but not in the context of this cage.
That was the root cause of the whole thing, but Chloe’s cowardice throughout the match, including fleeing to the top of the cage, indicates that Chloe now fears Sabrina’s physical abilities. For quite a while now, she’s really given the impression of stunned disbelief at what Sabrina can and will do to win this match. Chloe’s just bluffing now.
I’m really not sure about that. Chloe’s got nothing to gain by bluffing, and she can take the beating. I see resignation in Chloe’s face regarding her immediate fate – the lie is about the implications Sabrina’s impending victory will have on Chloe’s future in RA, rather than anything to do with physical pain.
Chloe is still desperate to believe she’s better than Sabrina. That’s why she’s bluffing. But she is truly, truly scared of what’s happening physically. That’s why she fled to the top of the cage. That’s why she tried to “reason with” Sabrina before that. She’s terrified. She desperately wants this to be over, just doesn’t want to admit defeat.
And why wouldn’t she be afraid? Sabrina’s nullified Chloe’s weapons, endured the best of Chloe’s wrestling techniques, and is still brutalizing her. There is nothing more terrifying for a fighter than understanding that even though you thought you were the better fighter, the best you’ve got will, at best, temporarily inconvenience and anger your opponent. I still remember the look on my first opponent’s face when he figured that out.
While Chloe’s feared Sabrina’s long-term implications for her own career for the whole length of the comic so far, she’s definitely fearing for her own body right now.
That’s very insightful. You’re generally right about the different ages. But I’d just add that I feel the pressure too. These young ones have a LOT of ambition and drive. They’re coming in with better foundations. And you know what? When I tour the high schools and see the next wave of talent, it’s clear there’s a brave new world ahead.
Yeah but your winning streak champ, will always be in the books. You will always be remembered. You’re fantastic, my favorite fighter.
Hell, I’M afraid of her, right now.
And I like it… 🙂
Bring the pain, Sabrina! I respectfully disagree with Mo Chen. In an I Quit match, the only way you can go too far is if you have the match won and you still want to do more. Chloe didn’t say she quit, so until she does, keep it up!
Also, blood for the Blood God.
it looks like she FED her fist to Chloe
Is this awesome? [y/n]
POW right in the kisser. Someone had to say it xd. Still I can’t believe that the worthless french slut hasn’t said I quit yet, what is she stupid? The coward has no chance of beating Brina at this point.
This is going to reach Bret Hart/Steve Austin Wrestlemania 13 proportions…
This is gonna get ugly. Sabrina has a lot of pent up emotions right now and she’s just letting them fly. Chloe really doesn’t stand a chance and never did in this match. After all they’ve done to Sabrina, it’s surprising that she hasn’t quit yet. When you push a person’s limits like they did in that alley, you had best be ready for it to come back. I can almost see Sabrina using those cage bars on her somehow. Chloe may not make it out in one piece.
Oh, yes she DID. Chloe literally scissored / choked Sabrina into unconsciousness. That’s not the work of someone who “never had a chance.” If Sabrina’s will hadn’t been as strong as it is, she would have lost the match.
I also love the face on Sabrina in that first panel. A look that says “Ow that hurts”, “that was fucking awesome”, and “I can’t believe I just did that shit” all at the same time. Sorry for the double post. XD
“Liar.” WOW. Powerful page!
Chloe sounds like she’s on her last legs here and judging by the VI it looks like Brina’s going to keep up the pounding. i think Chloe may need to borrow Cody Rhodes’ facemask after this match is over because i think Brina’s just going to stay where she is and beat Chloe’s face to a pulp til she says the magic words.
then of course, being Brina, after the glow of victory wears off she sees all the blood on her hands and worries that she’s become just like Chloe now by trying to cripple her like this and wonders if she should give up wrestling before she becomes a monster. 😉
Has anyone got a spare paper bag mask for Chloe?
Ahhhh Chloe’s nefarious plan becomes clear now. Brina’s hands are not conditioned to strike. She’s not taped. So Chloe’s going to break both her hands – with her face – then get a submission. Very clever!
Chloe better give in, or she’ll bring out the worst in Sabrina. The process has already begun. Don’t do a heel turn, Sabrina!
And just think, Chloe will be able to do her very own “You know how I got these scars” routine soon.
Sabrina’s letting someone alter who she is in her rage. She needs to take her with a submission, she has the moves to do it. This is just a senseless beating. Chloe’s not afraid, she wanted to make her a monster and right now it looks like she did. You have better sense than this. She needs to get her head out of the fog. The storytelling really invokes thought and emotion. Fantastic. The artwork is fantastic. I will say I feel sorry for the ref. This is a no rules I quit cage match and he’s seeing some crazy crap and being shoved around. Poor guy.
Whoa, hold on there. A submission may be slightly more effective at forcing someone to give up, never underestimate the power and versatility of blunt force trauma. The whole point of the ‘I Quit’ match is to give them opportunities to hurt each other, and Sabrina will force Chloe to quit by hurting her thoroughly from head to toe. A submission is great for when you want to force somebody to give up without hurting them, but that’s not really the objective. If you beat a person badly enough, they will quit, due to shock and horror at the injuries they’ve received and don’t want to keep receiving. That’s what Sabrina’s going for here, and good for her.
Honestly, I don’t think this alters who she is. I’m actually reminded of the famous Tully Blanchard/Magnum TA I quit match, where Magnum ended it by driving a sharp stick into Blanchard’s eye. Magnum was the face going in, he was the face going out, and nobody held it against him. It’s well and good to argue about the high road, but think a minute. This match is the culmination of a relentless string of harassment, assaults and attempts to maim Sabrina by Chloe. Basically, at this point it’s about payback. Chloe has had this coming for a long time, and it doesn’t discredit Sabrina at all for being the one delivering, IMO.
I was considering posting something similar today. In wrestling, “good” and “evil” have nothing to do with how far you’re willing to go when it’s all on the line. Sabrina’s being changed by the experience, yes, but she’s not being changed into some kind of monster. She’s being changed into a more experienced pro wrestler.
Chloe’s being changed by the experience too. Into roadkill, apparently. 😀
You’re point it totally valid, and I’m not nitpicking at all, but wasn’t it the stem of the microphone that Magnum TA used?
XD
Oh man, do know how hard it is to get blood off of canvas?
I’m still not sure how this is going to end, but obviously Chloe’s going to get the snot beat out of her – I just hope that Sabrina doesn’t lose her soul in the process…
Chloe is going to mess up and say “I surrender” instead of “I quit.” *BOOM* French joke!
To be honest, since this comic is played up, NOT as “Sports Entertainment” but more like MMA, I am surprised that they have let it go on this long…unless the writer is going to throw yet another twist and have Sabrina get pushed off and either give up the match, or better yet, will batter her into unconsciousness, where she cannot say I Quit, like SCSA and Bret Hart, and the match will be stopped. Good story, and Go, ‘Brina!
well Chloe already had brina KOed with her finisher several updates ago and the ref said the match won;t stop until someone actually says the words so Bret/Austin finish is off the table. i had said the same thing about the ref stopping it when Brina passed out but in this match up no cheap KO wins allowed 🙂
Thanks Dragonman! It seems most people think Chloe is fibbing. XD
2O2BC, I think Sabrina’s about to hit Chloe with her full fury. Will it be enough to make Chloe quit?
LOL Kurt! That is hilarious.
Dyna, you can rule out any interference from Sun, at least to stop Sabrina. Brooke might, and Krystin would be she doesn’t care enough.
Darkmark, she’s certainly flirting with the dark side. Can our little Ultragirl make it back to the light side?
Goldengirl, you’d find that Sabrina can be rough in this position, but I suppose she could be pretty sweet too. 😉
Styg, that’s pretty cool and it’s right from a certain point of view. I mean, win or lose, things are never going to be the same, especially for Sabrina and Chloe.
Alurker, I think other people feel the same way as you. XD
Tarrasque, you can count on Sabrina bringing it until she can’t, or she herself gets stopped.
Zero, Sabrina is feeding De Sade a steady diet of fists. 😛
Tiffany, it’s possible that Chloe has resigned herself to that fate and hasn’t realized it yet. Or maybe Chloe has one more card to play?
Jamal, I can only hope!!
Alex, I would say the double post was worth it especially because I think I agree with you on all points and I think others do too.
Thanks Lora!!
LOL jpiv. You might be more right than you know but you have to think that Sun will be there to talk her down. Sun can be pretty persuasive when she wants to be. 😉
Champ, you have realized De Sade’s very cagey plan. XD
Zanan4, this might be the onset of full-on heel-Sabrina! Chloe will be so screwed.
Cookie Ogre, that and she might use that paper bag too.
Thanks Vekara and way to look out for the ref! Zach really, really appreciates the sentiment. You’re right about Sabrina, but if she isn’t careful, she’ll just get caught up in the sick ground and pound.
GhostEraser, that is the main concern right now, if Sabrina can avoid losing the person that we all know and love. They might have to retire this particular canvas.
LOL Amanda!!
Neil, stay tuned!! You are right, in MMA this would’ve stopped if Chloe stopped defending herself, or maybe even doctor stoppage. Glad you are digging the story!
I don’t know that she’s lying, per se, so much as that she’s physically incapable of telling the truth.
what we need is for someone to step in and say “hold on a sec. I speak Chloe!”
Damn, standing ovation to Brina to be able to be able to bust the hell out of Chloe’s face with punches after that MEGA Ultrasplash.
WOW!!! Sabrina is out for blood…(literally! lol)
I can’t say I blame her, Chloe pushed her over the edge and now karma is coming back and collecting on her. Hopefully after this match is over Chloe gets what she deserves…a pink slip!
HA , idont know why Al but todays page makes me smile specialy when i get to the punches
This page makes me so happy. Yelling at the ref. Taunting a downed opponent who just said she’s not scared of her. The tables have turned, and I don’t mean goody goody Sabrina getting a quick win over Chloe. I mean Sabrina turning INTO Chloe. Sabrina is starting down the dark, heel road I’ve been begging for!
So, there is no difference between an angry face in a grudge match and a heel? Interesting.
This is a very interesting turn of events. I’m sure Sabrina went into the match thinking she’d do anything to get the win, but I have to doubt that she was imagining she would just pound away at a fallen opponent when she could be going for a conventional submission instead. (Something like a scissors or STF would seem pretty likely to further the damage from that huge move, for instance.)
There are still a number of ways this could go, and though most of them involve a win for Sabrina she could still come out losing as much as she’s gained if she’s not careful. The obvious one would be to just pound away on Chloe until she gets the magic words, though that could wind up knocking her out instead, which would be counterproductive.
Alternately, she could get the “I quit” but refuse to stop UNTIL Chloe is out cold (and possibly severely injured), which would give her the win but cost her a big part of her personality. You can argue whether she’d come out better or worse, but she’d definitely be a different person, and maybe get on management’s bad side in the process.
Unlikely but possible, she could get so sidetracked just hurting Chloe that she leaves some opening that allows one last turnaround. Not very likely, but it’s hardly unheard of in this kind of match. And really, the only way I could see Sabrina submitting was if she was in some sort of hold that would permanently injure or cripple her if she’s not released… and I don’t see that happening at this point.
As others have mentioned, someone (almost certainly Sun or maybe even all of the upstarts) could come down and “talk her down” into going with a more conventional submission move to end the match. That would give her the win and still let her retain her dignity. There would probably be some fallout for whoever came to talk her down, though.
A longer shot, but one that I could actually see being consistent with Ultragirl’s personality is that she batters Chloe unconscious (and maybe causes her a stretcher ride home in the process), then looks at what she’s done and just walks away from the match, telling the ref she quits. Technically Chloe would have the victory, but it would be clear who won the war — and Sabrina could still live with herself afterward.
I know I keep saying this, but it’s going to be interesting to see where this goes from here. 🙂

Interesting analysis. Personally, I don’t see Sabrina as a “keep going after the opponent’s given up” sort of person, even in this situation. Also, I don’t think Chloe’s got enough left to reverse this. My own opinion is that the Ultrasplash was the match climax, and all that’s left is the conclusion, which consists of wringing those two words out of Chloe.
You know? is just an idea form Big K but I see Sabrina saying “I Quit” before that major punishment to Chloe when she finally faints over the ring. I see her lefting the ring, quiting to Chloe and all that drama that was holding her back from be a real champion and facing Brenda Rua. I see an alone Chloe facing the darkness and maybe been fired. Alone, desperate and injured. What a shitty victory.
Actually, I see Sabrina getting the win, and, a few seconds after, noticing what she’s done and the blood on her hands, and going, “What have I become?”
The answer to that, of course, is “a pro wrestler.” Seriously, what about this sport has ever indicated that anybody ever feels remorse about beating the tar out of their designated opponent in front of an audience?
I would like to remind you that WWE’s “Hell in a Cell” PPV is coming up, and it is specifically intended to require extreme violence from every participant, regardless of face/heel orientation. This match would fit right in, despite the different cage design. I would be extremely surprised an more than a little disappointed if Sabrina was at all sorry for getting the job done properly in this match.
A submisison hold in an I quit match really? Sorry just no pounding away on her is the best option. And this is Cloe she deserves the pounding. Saying that Brina is going to turn into Cloe for pounding her is pretty bad because its untrue. She’s still who she was before but some people just need to get punched in the face.
Um, yeah. Submission = “I Quit.” Therefore a submission move is pretty logical. (And also a very common ending for an “I Quit” match, with plenty of examples ranging from Flair-Funk in the 70’s to the more recent Beth Phoenix-Melina bout in the WWE.)
Maybe beating Chloe senseless would lead Sabrina down a darker (read “heel”) path and maybe it wouldn’t… but I definitely think going that route would be crossing a line that would have real repercussions in her personality. That’s not necessarily a completely bad thing — it could be argued that Ultragirl’s biggest weakness has been a lack of killer instinct — but it would make her a different person than she’s been, and maybe not one she’ll like as well when she looks in the mirror.
