Page 18 – Trailblazin’
Cocoa got a little too cocky with our little Ultragirl. She’s not the first to make that mistake and probably won’t be the last. However, it needs to be said that while it’s super early in the match, Sabrina did just dodge a bullet.

Sabrina’s on a roll! Can she keep it up?
Man kinda disappointed that a move no one has gotten out of was gotten out of so easily and quickly by Sabrina. That just reeks of “Super Cena” stuff and part of the reason why a lot of the time I have trouble getting behind who the wrestling companies tell me to. lol
Kinda wanna see Cocoa rebound here, time to make new stars! lol 😛
Well, remember Coco’s using her finisher as an opener, without actually doing much damage to Sabrina beyond a gut-kick. That’s a rookie mistake and begging for a Fail. If she’d been wiping the floor with her like Black Widow did and THEN Brina came back it’d be harder to swallow.
I agree you don’t use your finisher on an opening move. In the world of wrestling it is a very very bad idea.
I like that you are marking out for the ‘Brazilian Tom Cruise.’ Plus, your Super Cena analogy is way off. Seriously, I googled Super Cena and it doesn’t come close. Thanks anyways.
finally RAWFShowtime, someone else besides me who smells the stink of supercena all over sabrina.
You got it wrong. Sabrina is Sting. Watch for her to show up in black with a baseball bat any minute now.
She’s certainly gullible like Sting but her ability to overcome practically everything that’s thrown at her is very “Super Cena” like. I like Sabrina…but yea…lol
To quote Todd Flanders: “Ow! My freakin’ ears!”
I would have lucked out had the been me and Sabrina, my Cat ears are detachable.
They are? Who knew?
LOL @ this entire thread.
After Cocoa’s cheap shot, she’s lucky that Sabrina doesn’t bite her ears off.
She isn’t Mike Tyson. Laughs….
She isn’t Mike Tyson, laughs.
Give her a chance to get going. 😉
nice counter
Very nice counter, though I’m curious why Coco let her move her hands like that.
W00t!
Snowy, Cocoa really didn’t have a choice in the matter.
Wow. Brina’s got some power there to lift her like that. Must be some major rage going on. Brina Smash!
Well she was angry coming into the ring then got cheaped shot. I’d be miffed too.
Madder Ultragirl get, stronger Ultragirl get. XD
Don’t make her angry. You wouldn’t like her when she’s angry. 🙂
If she got to angry would she sing it is Hard to Be Green?
Too late. She’s PO’d.
Sabrina Mancini countered a submission. Check that, Sabrina Mancini powered out of a submission against someone heavier than her. But it is Sabrina, and that was asking a lot out of her, so she finishes with the Punch of Random and Indeterminate Power. In doing so, she manages to bury South American Sabrina in the first minute of the match by no-selling her finisher.
Shamrox v. Black Widow was a squash match, and not even a good one. But at least it was better than the Tag Title match.
You do realize that there was literally no damage done to Sabrina other than a kick to the gut, right? Of course she got out of it, she still has everything in the tank! If this scenario were happening to someone you actually like, you’d be pointing this very thing out while singing their virtues for it. Don’t even try to deny it, dude, I’ve read the things you’ve had to say. And as far as burying Cocoa with a single punch in the space of a minute goes, I doubt that. I doubt that very much. Maybe she doesn’t get up right away, but I doubt she’s so inexperienced as to be defeated that easily. Call me crazy for believing so.
Tarrasque, thank goodness you got rid of all of the footage where someone smaller picks up someone bigger. No more Hogan/Andre footage for you. Also, good work with getting rid of any cheerleader footage. Where do those girls get off picking up girls bigger then themselves? They can also run a 7 minute mile Thank goodness Vekara isn’t around either to confirm this.
Sabrina is Kevin Nash. She will sell until she no longer feels like it.
They got jokes, huh? Let me elaborate.
Sabrina Mancini does not counter submissions. She flails about with her Punches of Random and Indeterminate Effect until the opponent gets tired of it and lets go. So when Cocoa catches Sabrina in her finishing submission hold, it’s safe to assume the only way Sabrina knows how to get out of it is to brawl her way out.
But what’s this? Sabrina not only knows how to counter a submission, but she can power out of one as well? That’s highly unusual coming from a high-flying brawler like Sabrina. And since it was Cocoa’s finisher and finishers are supposed to be pretty effective even if the opponent is 100% and even if it is the Cobra, Sabrina just made Cocoa’s whole offense look weak in one move. That’s how Sabrina buried Cocoa.
And no, Cocoa Rococo is not Andre the Giant nor have I ever seen a tiny cheerleader on the bottom of the pyramid. That’s just ridiculous. However, there may have been a grain of truth to all of this:
Sabrina is Kevin Nash. She will sell until she no longer feels like it.
That explains everything.
Whoops – caught myself typing a post attempting to reason with JSN. I know better than that crap! No feeding the trolls, folks!
Just to make sure you know being FAT doen’t make you strong, right Brenda?
True, you do amazing well with that cute kitten belly of yours.
BRAVO!!
Don’t say that to loud or Sabrina might pause to take a bow and then get waxed.
Sabrina will climb to the top rope and then bow…and then get waxed.
She doesn’t shave?
Did…’Brina just pick her up by her EARS!?!
HELL YEAH!!
I epicly approve!!
…I must try this…
I’d be ticked if someone picked me up by my real ears. The cat ears not so much.
Sabrina is good at improv. 😉
Ha, I knew this would happen, nobody puts Sabrina in a corner and expects her to take it…at least not anymore. 😀
I would expect her to take it if I got her in a corner.
Drastically different circumstances, Snowy!
It doesn’t help to get on Sabrina’s bad side…ask for a handshake and then deliver a cheap shot into your finisher. Cranky Ultragirl!
I’m surprised you didnt go with the Rampage Jackson powerbomb counter; but then that would make the match pretty short, huh.
Sadly, i won’t be seeing you again this year at Anime Central, but thanks again for the Rainbow Mika pic.
Well that would have been an excellent move but a punch to the face feels better.
Dave! You will be missed at ACEN. At the last minute I went with the punch rather than the Rampage-bomb so it would be a little different.
Um…. called it. 🙂
Let me guess you called it OMG !
😛
It is a good series of moves.

A fantastic read. 😀
Very nice sequence boss! Brina uses her brains and power to get out of a bad situation cleanly. She gets the crowd behind her in doing so. And a clip of this back at RA will certainly get some attention!
I is passing it around post haste!
Yeah, all good things and I think win, lose or draw, this is a defining moment for both Cocoa and Sabrina. 😀
Huh. I guess being super hero strong makes up a little for being a dumb baby face.
It doesn’t hurt.
Secondly, whenever she lifted her up out of the double arm bar, I immediately heard the Japanese audience’s trademark “OOOOOOH!!” in my head.
Me too! I opted for the polite audience response but I may need to go in and edit that.
in a completely unexpected developement- the move that “no one has every been able to escape from” is no match for protagonist power and the curse of actually telling someone no one’s escaped it. Cocoa in the end did make a mistake byt not wearing down Brina enough for her to maintain the needed grip on the arms letting Brina break out and eventually escape.
now Cocoa’s off her game and it’s a question of how soon she can get her bearings back against ticked off-er Brina who was already mad then got even madder at the cheap win attempt. Not calling it a burial just yet but Cocoa needs to rebound and come up with a plan B. there’s still a chance she can try the move again later on if she can make a comeback and if brina’s weaker not only will Cocoa have a better shot of keeping the hold, she also now is aware of how brina escaped the first time and can adjust for the next time.
Brina does look good appearance and matchwise in the VI but i’m still coco for Cocoa so hurry up and slap her into a “you know this is a pretty basic hold that never works when it comes to trying to win a match” to make Brina submit to use the odds overcoming Cena factor against her. <nods wisely>
Sabrina is the Undertaker. She buries everyone.
Or Triple H. That guy buries people better than Undertaker.
yeah- Taker seems to always lose Buried alive matches…and the majority of casket matches…about even in hell in a cell. basically whatever Taker’s “specialty” match is he’s probably going to lose it.
lol blazing new trails into the jungle indeed Bree my dear your a regular indiana jones
A blond Lara Croft! Minus the guns…and the guns! 😛
I dont know mY bree has some pretty nice guns to gring to the gun show
Of all the badass moments Brina has had, this is most certainly my favorite. Maybe the clever one-liner just does it for me.
XD Glad you enjoyed the moment.
Coco, you may still be hot, but you have got to be an even bigger rookie than Sabrina. They’re called finishers for a reason, and if you don’t get your head back in the game you’re going to get taken apart. ::looks up:: Hey Albone, are you hiring ring coaches? I might be the perfect cranky old guy to complete the sports movie metaphor and turn Coco into a champion! 😉
Can you do a good ‘Peter Falk?’
Sabrina will take Cocoa literally apart, piece by piece if she’s not careful.
Now that’s using your head (and abdomen). Nothing in the rules against attacking the ears. Cocoa thought she would be the one getting the most out of a surprise attack, but Brina out-surprised her. Hehehe. I’m liking how Brina’s actually thinking in the ring now instead of just plowing ahead
No one is more surprised than Sabrina at her thinking and improving more than her…and Sun, and Krystin, and Gabrielle, and Marina…
Love the art and the sequence boss, but I admit I was disappointed that Brina’s comeback was a punch. You can do a lot in pro match, but that was a closed fist and Brina’s style shoulda’ been her Ultrakick she was practicing in the back. But, that’s just Mo Chen talking…
Well there was that whole ‘super cena’ thing to avoid…
…oh…
Actually Cena would have punched… not kicked
Right, good point.
Nice counter, Sabrina. Amazing power. Hope your endurance is amazing – inefficient lifts like that burn energy like whoa. (Note: my concern about Sabrina’s endurance is limited to in-ring performance, and not about my personal goals – ahem.)
Honestly, Rococo bragging about that move is kind of dumb. On some examination and experimentation, the double armbar is lethal against the typical retreat-and-reset indoctrinated fighter, but anyone who moves forward to attack instead? It is USELESS against us. Literally no chance of working if the intended victim is advancing.
Mo, the Ultrakick needs to be saved for the actual end. Unlike Cocoa, Sabrina isn’t rushing to apply the finisher. This match needs to go on for a few minutes, and the Ultrakick doesn’t really allow for that.
Plus, there’s the range issue. Cocoa and Sabrina were still at very close range. The Ultrakick is a long range move. I’m impressed that she even managed to get in a good punch that close – maybe she’s been watching my training?
Sabrina may have been scouting you. Her strikes are going to be more prominent here in Japan. And it seemed like Sabrina was too close to use the Ultrakick. HBK probably could’ve pulled it off, but she’s not there yet.
And you’re starting to get the feel for Cocoa just fine, so to speak. 😉
Hey Alan, for ACEN this weekend, send me your panel topic agenda (what are you talking about on what days) and we can figure out if you want myself and / or Steve on the panel.
If you’re talking about HTML, I won’t have much to offer other than “pay someone else to do it,” but if you’re talking about the normal stuff we cover in our past panels in more depth, I can elaborate no problem.
It’ll be our usual stuff, but more time to elaborate and explain. I’ll be sending you an outline soon.
Knew Sabrina can get out of that move & give Cocoa ass kicking.
Sabrina’s looking to give Cocoa what-for!
I appreciate not doing the kick right now. They were too close for that kick. Though she could have done a round kick; we’ve seen nothing to suggest she has the shins for it. Besides, either could be the end and it’s too early, just like you said.
For the future though I’d point out the elbow for in close. We’d all know she intended a forearm smash. Ooops!
Good call, jie jie… a forearm upside the head then set up for something else.
Given the range we see in panel 4, a roundhouse to the thigh is about the only kick possibility. A lot of striking options vanish at extreme close range. They might even be too close for KNEES without some preliminary space-making. The elbow would work, but it’s for when you’re feeling a bit technical. When you’re in the state of mind Sabrina’s in, you need to apply the hand. It’s the only thing that satisfies.
Of course, not many people at all know how to punch effectively at that range. I can do it – love it, actually, closer the better – but when the range gets THAT tight, I opt for the palm. It’s easier to work with super-close, and the impact is downright murderous.
Mo Chen has used a double palm strike very nice a few times; thrust into the ribs.
I picked up that technique from kung fu. I love it to pieces. It’s hilarious to use when clinched – it effectively protects the midsection while causing horrible damage to theirs.
Concur here… when you’re fighting instinctively, it comes down to what comes naturally for you. Someone like Kenta Kobashi would probably use a chop, while Mitsuharu Misawa would naturally go for an elbow. Basically it’s “do what you know”.
hey don;t forget the old fashioned headbutt 🙂
I love Bjj and Jujitsu, but this is exactly why I don’t think its street applications in pure form. You need to fight dirty with even with submissions to make them work. Hell Sabrina could have bitten coco’s nose or something nastier. Shes in for a world of hurt after that cunt punt, hope coco has some game to go along with her mouth.
