Page 99 – Sudden Impact
Things not looking too good for Loretta at the present moment, but things like that can change in a heartbeat. We got a lot of the move/counter move with Sabrina taking advantage of the little opening that Loretta left with the missed clothesline. ย Can Sabrina capitalize? ย Is Loretta playing possum and not really so hurt?
Dawn and Jeff continue to narrate this grudge match for us, in the only way they know how, riffing off of each other and trying to contribute to the match, while trying not to take anything away from it. ย And I know some of you are fans of our commentating team!! ๐
Monday brings us page 100 and I can tell you that I wracked my brain to come up with a good page 100 for all of you, and I hope it delivers.
6 panels, used here… but i pure detailed… Very nice work..
Panle 5: POW!!! RIGHT IN THE KISSER…POW RIGHT IN THE KISSER!!!
I can really agree on Albone, things not looking too good for Loretta. from the start of the match until this point, Loretta can’t win.. Sabrina really knows Loretta. Sabrina really knows Loretta’s offense pattern. sad to say this but, it’s over. Sabrina wins…
Can Sabrina capitalize?
Yes, if she’s focus on wrestling rather than the fans. she can capitalize if she’s will not rise her hand, as if she won. or turn her back on Loretta.. but at this point Sabrina really made Loretta, a Loretta Diaz punching bag..
Is Loretta playing possum and not really so hurt?
Nah!!! Loretta’s hurt. she’s done for.. looking at her face at panel 6, she’s tried. is like she gave up..
from point of view on Panel 6. I think on Monday’s update is gonna be… Sabrina dropkicked Loretta on the face again, in which Loretta will be very weaken on that point. then Sabrina should I say.. “tuning up the band”, for the “Ultrakick” then when Loretta stand up daze.. POW!!!Right in the kisser.. then Sabrina goes for the “Ultrasplash” Booommm!!! 1….2…..3….
I cannot see or angle how to help Loretta, now.. I already said last.. Loretta will just get out of the ring and go back to the locker room give this win to Sabrina. challenge Sabrina next. but still there’s a little time..
I really have no idea what happen in the 100th episode..
Damn!! wait until Monday.. it’s very exciting…. Hhahhahah
Panel 4: is really like on episode 39. but here Sabrina ducked down from Loretta’s clothesline.
“Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini really showed Loretta her speed capability.. I never saw Sabrina like this before.. may Sun and Sabrina spar on their hidden training in which Sun gave Sabrina a tips about speed.. coz looking at Sun’s match, Sun showed her speed to Sara Valentine.. “Never knew what hit her”
or maybe.. Sun and Sabrina focus on training for their opponent..after they have fun on the pool. while Brooke and Krystin, didn’t talk strategy..
just a theory… coz looking at Sabrina’s match.. I really can say.. Damn!!! she’s awesome.. she really got the skill..if Sabrina keep this up, maybe I’ll put Sabrina one of m favorite wrestler list.. “never know” ๐
Ka-whaammm!
M.G.C.: I disagree about Sabrina not celebrating yet. She takes a great part of her strength from the fans, so she’s obliged to give something back. And now is the perfect opportunity.
By now, I’d expect Sabrina to be smart enough not o turn her back on Loretta, but that doesn’t mean she can’t take a moment to appease the fans.
Of course, we don’t know exactly which corner of the ring Loretta is no hanging in. If Sabrina keeps her eyes on Loretta, but her back towards the entrance, someone could sneak up on her with a chair while she’s celebrating.
I really don’t know why.. Sabrina want to give something back to back to fans.. she can celebrate later and obliged the fans later after the match.. just like Sun did after her match.
thinking about what JackAce said.. someone could sneak up on her.. the question is who?
Hell’s Belle? Brooke? Krystin?
But I think, no one will interfer this match for now. maybe the next Monday night meltdown.. there we’ll notice interferance. but not now, they’ll still study Sabrina’s movement and maybe finding her weak spot
Looks like an error in 4 (one extra word).
That’s a GREAT look in 5.
MGC, definitely a good possibility that Sun and Sabrina did some training before hand, as opposed to Brooke and Krystin. You’re right about the Ultrakick, it CAN come out of nowhere and finish a fight. Sabrina likes to celebrate with the fans because she feeds off of them. That sort of thing is good to have when the tide is against you in a match.
Actually, JackAce, if I’m not mistaken, Loretta would be facing the entrance ramp, so if Sabrina goes after Loretta, her back will be to the entrance ramp. !! And I agree with you about Sabrina and the fans. She might give a fist pump in the air the next panel. Or not. ๐ In any case, Sabrina probably won’t take her eyes off of Loretta because we know it can be bad news if she does.
bd, THANK YOU. I appreciate the eagle eyes and the editor help. It should be all fixed up, and if not try refreshing. Glad you liked page 5, for some reason, drawing a dropkick that looks well at least, seems to be a challenge. I’m glad it worked here.
Love how Loretta’s thrown out of panel.
Another great episode, really, Alan, you spoil us.
Featured this time around: Action Hair. Some of Its styles:
Speed Hair, seen on Sabrina in every panel she’s in except panel two. Loretta has it in panel four but its not as sleek as Sabrina’s.
Strength Hair, Sabrina in panel two: her hair flows in a curve complementary with her headlock, graceful but strong.
Ooof!! Hair, Loretta in panels five and six… her feeling of shock and surprise comes through in her hair ( as well as her face )… but compared to Sara Valentine in Sun’s match, Loretta isn’t out of the fight, she’s gonna quickly put her hair back over her ears and she’ll be really ticked and out for blood.
Speaking of panel five, Loretta goes left eye open and right eye closed when hit by surprise, just like when Sabrina slapped her. Coincidence… or a ‘tell’ for an observant opponent to read a vulnerable moment?
Once again, the crowd is a character too. From the chants in the opening panels to the stunned silence in the last, they have a part to play too. I bet they come back with a wild adrenaline driven crescendo Real Soon Now.
Panel four… sheer poetry. Look at what this panel conveys:
Sabrina is fast and coordinated; check her hair, its flowing while Loretta’s is spread out from her effort of reaching but not connecting.
Loretta is off balance with an ill timed attack… she’s clearly not running at 100%… the fraction of a second it takes her to stand straight again is all it takes for Sabrina to wheel around and set up the kick in panel five.
All that in one deceptively simple cartoon drawing.
At this point in the comic’s run, panels four and five define Ultragirl.
Up until now it’s been Sabrina in the ring, who Marina feared woud be just a disappointing wrestler who would never quite live up to her billing.
Not anymore.
There will no doubt be other moments of definition to come, but here, now, Ultragirl has taken center stage.
Can she keep up the pace?
Episode One Hundred… whatever you’re planning, Alan, its gonna be grand.
LOL! ‘She just did Jeff.’ That’s exactly what I was thinking.
Sabrina hit Loretta so hard she knocked her out of the panel!
M.G.C., good point about Sabrina getting distracted by the fans. If she takes too much time acknowledging them, it could cost her.
I look forward to Monday.

Great Page… although the last panel throws up some interesting ideas. If it were the Sassy Schoolgirl in this match i coulf definately see her going for a stinkface just to humiliate Loretta ๐ But Sabrina isnt like that.. or at least we dont think ๐
Cant wait to see more action in the ring ๐
Thanks Jamie! It seems that’s a popular panel ๐
Roller Derby Fan, thank you again for the well thought commentary on this page! Definitely a ‘tell’ there by Loretta that she’s been shocked, good eyes! The crowd is certainly a part of the story, I feel it helps get over the point of the mood of the match story, so we’ll definitely see more of that. And I’m thrilled you’re looking forward to page 100.
Monday is coming soon A. Mouse and I’m glad you liked that bit between Jeff and Dawn. It seemed the thing to do. ๐
Hey Matt! I was wondering if anyone else was going to think that this could be an opportune time for a stinkface, but you’re also right in thinking that the stinkface just isn’t a move for Sabrina. Good eye though!
