Page 121 – Monica Rules
Monica was in trouble, for like, a minute before turning the tides on Katherine Smith. Small girls rule! At least Monica thinks so and she’s in control of this match so who am I to argue? The Atomic Drop in panels 3-4 is murder on your tailbone, I’ve had the misfortune of being on the receiving end of that move. Yowch!! You can check out a vintage clip of it here:
Another fan favorite in Monica Rumble, who likes to get the crowd fired up. To her credit, Kat’s out of it for the moment so Monica’s indulgence can be slightly overlooked.
The ‘mushroom’ comment at the end is in reference to the Saturday morning cartoon of yesteryear, the Smurfs. XD
At least Kat didn’t sell that Atomic Drop like Mr. Perfect on the video. LOL!
What was Jeff saying there? Whatever it was, I get the impression it’s nothing good. I think Dawn may be right that ‘small girls’ are good at winning. That may be partially due to their rivals underestimating them.

Panel 4: “Mighty” Monica Rumble used the atomic drop…

ps2kid, no one can sell the atomic drop like Mr. Perfect. 😀
MGC, just a quick heads up, my email isn’t working very well right now, but I will answer your emails as soon as it lets me.
Awesome set. Nice timing too. You skipped the unimportant details, like the kick out or how many punches it took to get loose, to keep the action flowing. Unless there was something fancy in moving from pinfall to bearhug, all we needed was the announcers. Very sweetly done. It keeps the high pace feeling, even in what people refer to as rest holds, like the bear hug. 😀
Good to see some classing wrestling action again too. Atomic Drop is such a tradition of quick impact sorts, way more than some of the suplexes. And MGC, that’s not a proper German Suplex grip unless she’s going to roll through it. It may get called a German Suplex nowadays since Chris Benoit made the rolling german so popular, but that’s just a basic belly to back suplex position, if she was going to throw the Wild Kat over.
Watching this action, I have to say, Hell’s Belles plan better come into play soon, or the Wild Kat is going to be spayed.
Oh, as far as selling goes, yeah. Mr. Perfect was the king of sell. He could bounce like a rubber ball and not make it look totally comical.
Shawn Michaels is almost as good, but he can get to be hilarious if he’s got to sell for someone he doesn’t want to. No one may sell like Curt did, but no one will -ever- oversell like Michaels.
Thanks Salazen, I’m glad you enjoyed the update! You totally got it. I had to drop in some classic moves like the bearhug and atomic drop and now that you mention it, I might have to get the belly to back suplex in there. Maybe even a sidewalk slam! I remember when Mr. Perfect lost to Jerry Lawler and he just killed this slingshot into the turnbuckle post, hilarious! But in a good way. I hear you on HBK and the over/no sell, but I give him a pass because of his longevity, not counting the time he was away because of his back.
Salazen, I agree two things with you. First, about that skipping that unimportant details. The TV tournament is going to be very long arc. If every match took about six pages (two weeks) to finish, this TV tournament story arc is going to be very very long to finish. Not to mention, there are still other matches, backstage drama between Sabrina and other girls, and of course other matches beside this TV tournament. I’m suggesting that for every non-Sabrina, non-Upstarts, non-Hell’s Belle match should be made short. Like that 1 page match between Kristin & Brooke VS Catgirls.
Second, about that selling thing. Yep, none could sell like Curt Hennig. Why ? Because he’s PERFECT damn it! He’s Mr. Perfect, duh. And that overselling thing that you mention about Shawn Michaels, are you talking about what he did during his match against Hulk Hogan in Summerslam 2005 ? LOL! I need to find video of that match in Youtube.

Nooooo!!! It’s better longer.. The thrills, chills and action is there..  9-12 pages is okay for minimum match, non main event.. Hell’s Belle, “Shinobi” “Lil Dragon” Sun Wong”, “Mighty” Monica Rumble, “Latina Chick” Loretta Diaz must have many pages.. they’re awesome wrestler.. maybe in one point Sabrina won’t be having a match. for fairness…Â
heheheh…Â

That’s the classical delemma of the Online Comic. While we’re waiting for the new updates to trickle in, we’d want everything to happen as quickly as possible. But when one reads the comic from the archives, one gets to appreciate the additional details you get in longer sequences.
Here’s what I’d expect to be adequate lengths for most matches:
Basic Match Length: 3 pages.
Contains an Upstart or Hell’s Belle: +2 pages
Contains Sabrina: +1 page (in addition to being an upstart)
Is important for the current story arc: +2 pages
Contains more than two wrestlers: +1 page
Unusual Circumstances: +1-3 pages
In all cases, that’s only counting full pages of wrestling action
Following this system, Sabrina’s match against Loretta should have had 8 pages (Upstart, Sabrina, Story Arc, perhaps 1-3 more if you count her rivalry with Loretta as an Unusual Circumstance), so it was a bit over-length.
This match here should weigh in at 7 pages (Hell’s Belles, Story Arc) and the upcoming Battle Royale should have between 7 and 9 pages (Story Arc, Multiple Wrestlers, Unusual Circumstance)
Basic Match Length: 3 pages.
Contains an Upstart or Hell’s Belle: +2 pages
Contains Sabrina: +1 page (in addition to being an upstart)
Is important for the current story arc: +2 pages
Contains more than two wrestlers: +1 page
Unusual Circumstances: +1-3 pages
Waaaa!! Sabrina +1 page… she that special… Boooo! “Ultragirl”
Basic Match…non favorites.. 3 pages with 8 panels.. like Victoria Beckinham, Xtina Carpenter,
Match with Hell’s Belle 6 pages with 8-9 panels in regular match..
(Hell’s Belle/Upstarts/Monica/Loretta/Sara/Damage Inc/Brend Rua) <=any of the characters involve in the Hell in Cell 30 pages with 8 panels
Angel in the bank match, 20 pages with 8 panelsÂ
Lumber Angel (Guardian Angels match) 16 pages with 8 Panels
Last Angel Standing Match 40 pages with 8 panels
Iron Angel Match 35 pages with 8 panels..
Battle Royal I think 10 pages with 8 panel.. some times 1 wrestler can eliminate 3 at the same time. so if that happen, pages will be less..
Â
More pages so detailed comics.. YEAH!!!
I think Upstart girls, “Mighty” “Mon Mon” Monica Rumble, “Latina Chick” Loretta Diaz, Hell’s Belle will have 9 pages in regular matches..
Or to be fair of all the Rival Angels Roster.. whoever have fans (except the upstart girls / Hell’s Belle) can have +3 pages.. like right now.. “Mighty” “Mon Mon” Monica Rumble have fans cheer for her.. and I like to see “Mighty” “Mon Mon” Monica Rumble again in the future.. she’s cool.. with great power comes painful kick :DÂ
“Latina Chick” Loretta Diaz also is impressive, she also deserve a 9 pages match with a win..
I kinda think 9 pages is fine..
it’s unfair we always go to see no good “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini in a longer match, and we got to see her in drama too.. so I think Hell’s Belle, Monica Rumble, Loretta Diaz have their share in this comic too you know..
Monica, Loretta, Sara, Hell’s Belle, Catgirls are great wrestlers too.. they can show great moves too.. I bet “Mighty” “Mon Mon” Monica Rumble can destroy “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini..
Waaaa!! Sabrina +1 page… she that special… Boooo! “Ultragirlâ€
Well, she is the main character of the comic…
Thanks for the suggestions and ideas on the pages and match length.Â
Sure, there needs to be some degree of variation.
Pacing is one of the great arts in storytelling, and can never be completely reduced to fixed formulas.
First, albone, I’m amazed that you can do 3 updates a week; I don’t know how you do it.
Second, balancing pages so that they’re not too long or too short is important. Even i was getting tired of the Sabrina match by the end, but it was an important match so I can’t see it being much shorter than it was. Only 1 page per match is too short unless the match is almost over before it starts; but, one way to get through all the matches faster would be to have someone summarize them, or show a ‘highlight reel’, or something else that has some of the matches happen ‘off screen’. Some of that could happen when the girls go to the bar, and someone there could tell them what they missed. Of course, this assumes that some of the matches could be skipped without it effecting the story. If they are important to the story they should be shown, and they should take as long as they need to take to tell what happened in them; both with the number of pages needed, and the number of panels per page needed. If the story became too formulaic it would be boring, but having a basic idea how long the matches should take is good for general pacing.

Thanks A Mouse, I have a good support system which helps in getting three pages a week. :) And thanks for weighing in on the match page length. I think you’ve given me a couple of good ideas here on the subject. 😉
