Chapter 7-Page-16-Will She, Won’t She?
Sun sums it up pretty well, especially since she’s been pretty critical of both her roommates. What do you think so far? Can Brooke escape? Is Kat right and Krystin will break the hold?

Business looks like it’s about to pick up. Vote to see what’s coming on Friday!
Kat’s tactic is interesting, she thinks Krystin will go soft on her.
Well, Krystin has proved her right so far. Really hopping Krystin follows through with no breaking the hold. Not because I want Brooke hurt, but because I want it to be confirmed that Krystin has it in her to not blink.
We’ll find out very shortly.
Brooke wouldn’t dare push it with you and me. Honor the hold. Tap or SNAP!
The buildup is good and I think she may escape. You’re reconstructing her into a convincing nemesis for Brina, and I like it.
I can see the team helping her any moment now. Can you feel it? I don’t see here being a nemesis but she will be a pain in the butt.
Thanks for noticing Brooke. 😉
She doesn’t need to permanently hurt her, just temporarily hurt her.
Easy for Kat to say when it’s not her legs.
Seem to recall Kat’s habit of tapping real quick any time she’s in a submission hold. Isn’t that how she lost the belt? Hum.
Very good point. But, no like Xtina is a pushova’ submission wise.
Kat can commiserate!
No one should every do a permanent hurt but no problem with hurting them to cause pain and a submission.
It’s tap or snap, kitten.
I will remember that next time. SNAP !!!
BTW, Chris, I was channeling Saraya in panel 6. XD
Gotta think she gets out there. Brooke has a lot of foolish pride and I don’t think she’d be able to live with herself if she tapped out to Krystin…We shall see!
I’ve run into a few people that won’t tap no matter how much you hurt them. Jobbers love pain.
That seems to be a growing trend in WWE and TNA. Holds (and finishers) that used make grown men cry and tap out in helpless abandon, now days hardly phase anyone. We grow ’em better these days?
Maybe a little of that, but I think there’s more sophistication and awareness. You’ll see certain submission moves effective in minor leagues, so to speak, but wouldn’t catch anyone with that same move in the pros.
And there’s people who love jobbers!
Doesn’t have the guts? Sounds like a challenge to me! Show her she’s wrong, Krystin! 😀
I know the last fight I was watching, Brenda tried to break her opponents arm to make her submit. Turns out arms can be hard to break.
Our Brenda? When did she turn into a Puma?
LoL not hardly. I just countered being caught in a cross body leap. There was nothing heroic on either side.
I bet it looked pretty cool.
Kat does seem awfully sure, doesn’t she?
First and foremost, Krystin had better recognise Kat’s advice as a warning sign of utmost importance. As a submission wrestler, it is absolutely crucial that your opponent not even SUSPECT you might have any qualms about keeping that hold on as long as necessary. Obviously this is an easier position to maintain when you DON’T have any such qualms, but even if you do, fake it ’til you make it.
Second…anyone remember who it was who thought Brooke was leading the Belles? Me neither 😛
I still don’t see having to injure an opponent to make them submit. Just enough pain or beat them senseless is good enough.
It’s not like there’s a clear line between “cinching the hold in as hard as I can” and “cinching the hold in just tight enough to hurt a lot and still keep you from getting out.”
I still have to remain mum on the whole ‘leader’ thing, but I’m still a little confused how readers might the the idea that Brooke is running things.
It may not be that Kat thinks Deftech would break a hold on everybody, just on Brooke, since they know each other from coming into RA at the same time. However, there’s something to be said for the proper application of a submission hold. A submission artist isn’t required or even encouraged to apply a hold with the intent to break you with it. It’s up to you as the victim to tap out if you can’t escape, or the referee to call the match to avoid the victim being injured. So that’s two other lines of defense against “snapcracklepop” before the executor’s willingness to go all the way even comes into it. You apply the hold expecting the other person to tap out to protect themeslves. If they don’t, it’s on them for being stubborn, not on you for being mean.
Anyone even attempting to be a submission wrestler has to come to that understanding quick if they intend to have that as a part of their offense.
Hum, based on the preview it looks like something is going to get Sun involved (gasp! shock!). I forsee a ref distraction/Belles break the hold. While I’m impressed with Brooke’s fortitude here, the cloverleaf is one of those nasty holds that is hard to power out of. Your legs are tangled so you don’t have the same ability to muscle out as you would with, say, a Boston crab. You basically need to have a lot of flexibility and squirrel out of it (I don’t see Brooke having that) or to forcibly drag your way to the ropes with your arms – this I can see her trying, though from the looks of her position it’d be a titanic task, as she is facing away from the ropes nearest her. Remember, Kat wasn’t able to escape the similar scorpion deathlock, and she is IMO a better wrestler than Brooke. This isn’t a slight on Brooke either… the cloverleaf is a *nasty* hold, and there’s a good reason why it was Dean Malenko’s finisher, and he was almost universally seen by his peers as being an astonishingly skilled technician.
I’m not sure if Kat was right or not… Krystin does appear to have lingering feelings of friendship for Brooke, but she’s also a hard nosed competitor. Regardless, I strongly suspect that the Belles will get involved because it’s doubtful that Brooke can break the hold on her own.
Breaking the hold is possible but I agree, she will only break it if she uses the Force. The force of her buddies outside the ring.
Gotta’ stay deep so they can’t get a shoulder under and roll through. Krystin’s no dummy.
I’m not sure Brooke has the flexibility to do that. I’d pay to see.
That’s pretty much my point there… it can be escaped, but it requires someone very limber and flexible, as well as who is on the ball enough to both know how to get out and remember that when they’re in serious pain. Or to put it simply, it’s hard to go “Okay, I need to move thus and so,” when crowding out coherent thought is “OHGODITHURTS”. Frankly Brooke doesn’t strike me as having either quality.
Dean Malenko was awesome and a direct nod from Krystin. 😉 but Krystin does seem to be hesitating, doesn’t she? Dean wouldn’t. 😛
Certainly agree with you there. Dean was probably one of the most skilled ring technicians I’ve ever seen, not to mention he was quick and agile too. Just too bad he didn’t really go as far as he could have in the big companies
Benoit was pretty impressive, too. Sadly, people don’t like to talk about him, due to how badly he made his exit from the world.
I see Krystin keeping the hold for keeping the hold’s sake, which in turn makes Katherine get pissed off whether or not Brooke taps and a Hell’s Belles distraction later sees a certain Powergirl forcibly breaking the hold while the ref’s back is turned should Brooke not tap out, which causes Sun to get involved, which may or may not lead to Krystin retaining via disqualification.
Also, this all but proves I’m right about Katherine being the new leader of Hell’s Belles.
Well either way it works out when I fight Kat in June she can’t have the backing of the group. Giggles.
Lotsa’ luck with that. Even though you annoy Mo Chen, Ryoko and I can hang out ringside. Because unless you fighting in a cage, I no see that happening.
Kat’s already pretty steamed to having lost the belt in the first place, so Krystin keeping it on indefinitely might rile her up. I mean, she’s pretty worked up as it is, eh?
Truthfully, Krystin wouldn’t go too far, even if it’s against an old friend, right ? 🙁
However, all isn’t fair in both Love and war, as friendship like this wouldn’t matter in the ring, right ? 🙁
So…what choice does Krystin make? And for that matter, what choice does Brooke make?
This is why it can be super hard to fight friends. “KICK TO FACE!” is so much easier against…say…Kat Smith (cow) than Jamie, Bunny or Chloe (hugtastic awesome)!
But still, fight first, make peace later.
*nod*
Hugtastic? 🙂 Mo Chen giggling at the idea of you giving ol’ Frenchie a big ol’ squeeze til her eyes bug out.
ehhehe..
I wonder if you both have a courage to say that when my queen is around..
I know Mo Chen fears Chloe..
oui!! Mo Chen
Your Queen, ah? Mo Chen show you how a queen can kneel. Maybe I clamp Frenchie in my Lotus Lock.
Wrong Chloe!
XP
I mean Chloe Fields o’ the awesome Upstart Nation!
XD
Yes, nice and sweet Chloe. 🙂
And not forgetting StrawBeary!
It’s the Bear that keeps us in line.
*nod*
Since Rival Angels action is legit fighting, the situation reminds me of a couple of MMA fights. Frank Mir had no problems breaking Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s arm to win the fight, but GSP passed on two opportunities to break Dan Hardy’s arm in their fight (it’s fair to point out that Dan Hardy showed extreme toughness in gutting through the pain).
Throw in the fact that the ladies are friends and the situation becomes less clear. What would you do?
you should also added that Chloe don’t mind ending career of her opponent
I hear that!
*rub neck*
Wait…
*ponders*
That was Kat!
That was a rough landing. XD If it helps, you know that Chloe approved.
Oh.
I know.
*eyes Belles in general*
Bad medicine!
i think amanda’s gonna run in because 1) brooke won;t tap to make herself loook bad in front of the belles after escaping dark match hell, 2)krystin won;t let go because she likes being cheered it seems and wants to keep her title and 3) just look at amanda’s expression
plus given Sun’s reaction in the VI and her earlier interaction with amanda that seems to be a good catalyst to get the “commentator” to get involved.
and dammit where’s Teddy Long? his ears must be burning at the imminent interference from someone about to happen and a tag team match asking to be made. and if someone gives him any attitude “you can go one on one wit da champ Brenda Rua playa. now holla that!”
What he said! lol
With the VI, Sun does pose a potential game-changer aspect, doesn’t she?
Now that I hear you say it after Amanda and Sun’s little spat – I can see it happening.
Panel 4: I remember ‘Powergirl’ Katherine Smith tap out to Xtina..
I wonder if anyone told her don’t you dare tap… and Katherine, herself tap out.. kinda like the irony?
Panel 5: lolz.. some of my friends think different
Kat subscribes to the De Sade motto of: Do as I say, not as I do.
problem of Kat..
she’s not like ‘White Queen’ Chloe De Sade..
great in evil tactics..
In TV wrestling the attacker will abandon a hold that doesn’t yield a submission and move on to something else. The transition is often what leads to a a reverse of the momentum. Otherwise you have a deadlock with an inescapable hold being applied to one who won’t give. The solution, to break something, isn’t an option.
In mma the rule is tap or snap. If I have a juji gatame (straight arm bar) locked in there is a short window in most cases where defender can tap. It’s called honoring the hold. If I don’t follow through then defender has time to ease it and eventually escape. I’ve wasted a lot of energy at a minimum. I could lose. And that’s a consequence of my decision. You getting your arm broken is a consequence of your decision.
As the boss points out, RA is legit fighting. It’s not combat so there are rules. There’s no rule against injuring someone. But the boss lady gets upset if you make a habit of it. And the locker room has its ways too. In facet we’ve seen an example of the locker room in action.
The locker room abhors reckless fighters. O_o
Good point Brenda, and no face girl wants to get a rep as an arm breaker especially if you want Gabby to book you.
She looks like she’s going to tap, but really she’s readying a fist bump. Because she has The Def Tech right where she wants her.
Probably not, but hey – worth a shot, right?
LOL, absolutely!
Certainly a smart strategy on Kat’s part. Banking on Krystin’s loyalty to a friend, and exploiting it when push came to shove. Problem with that is, when you’re in the middle of that ring and you’re getting your spine stretched out and your legs twisted like a pretzel, plans sort of fly out the window and all you want is the pain to stop
Krystin kind of reminds me of Dean Malenko. She’s not the strongest, but she’s definitely one of the most technical wrestlers out there. Even her finisher is the same!
