Page 196 – Nose Job
Real quick: the hold in the first panel is called the ‘straight jacket.’ We saw that Sabrina was able to kick out of the pin attempt from last update, but now she’s in a world of hurt. More on that in a second. Sabrina’s left elbow is still a problem. It was healing, but when its forced to go through similar punishment, its not going to hold up. Jennifer also adds some insult to injury by scratching up Sabrina’s forehead and some taunting. If it weren’t for the quick knee to the head, this update would be all Jennifer. As it is, Jennifer has Sabrina set up for her finishing move, the ‘Nose Job.’ Check out the Youtube clip to see what I’m talking about.
It is possible, though rare that an opponent can kick out of a pin attempt once they’ve been hit with a finishing/signature move. The idea is that the attacker knows how to deliver this move with such accuracy that it stuns their opponent long enough to get the pinning three count.
Sabrina’s been fighting two opponents all match, and she’s got a bad elbow. Can Sabrina kick out if she gets hit with Jennifer’s signature move?
EDIT: New Voting Incentive today! Â One half of the Catgirls, Snow kitten!
EDIT 2: One of our darling angels makes a cameo over at Sailor Sun.org, courtesy of CD Rudd who I hung out with at Webcomics Weekend.
LOL!! Belly ring. I expect that Jennifer will soon use a foreign object. But I didn’t expect that she’s going to use ‘belly ring’ as her choice of foreign object. Great one, albone.
And here we go with the X-Fac… I mean, Nose Job! Jennifer is already in the middle of performing the move. The only way Sabrina could counter this is if Sabrina could punch/kick/shove fast enough before Jennifer finish performing that move. If Jennifer hit this move, BAM! Cover, 1 … 2 … and the only way Sabrina could kickout if she pin her too close to the rope so that Sabrina could use her leg to touch the rope and then the ref would break the pinfall count.
This does NOT look good for our heroine. But since most of the fun is in seeing our heroines punished, I’m all over this one. Thanks, Albone.
I’d say, more like “jelly belly ring”…Â Sabrina better come up with a great counter move, cause she’s about out of steam.
Great drawing, the japaneese strangle hold is awesome ;)Â
Voting Incentives.. Yeah!!! 3  straight of favorite angels in Voting incentives.. Love it!!.. First Brenda Rua, then Sara Valentine, now SnowKitten… I’m a Catgirls fan.. whooooo!!! Catgirls battlecry: MEOW! MEOW! MEOW! (ala 300)
Great Panel 1.. Bigger panel.. well done.. I really like you drawn Jennifer there!! :)  :)  🙂
I kinda have doubt, the “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini, arm. remember on that interview.. Sabrina said “elbow, the torso and hair are good.” and at the Halloween Special, her match didn’t affect her elbow.
another question.. Jennifer Needles arms, kinda bigger than “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini, but then “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini weight more than Jennifer.. could it be that Jennifer Needles gain weight? but she’s still beautiful lady..
Panel 2: Jennifer Needles’ belly ring.. I never saw a wrestler wear a earring or belly ring during a match..
Â
Panel 3: ah? that’s scratch..that’s gotta bleed, am I right? that’s sharp.
Â
Panel 5: signiture move? ah usually signiture moves are not finisher. it’s like Triple H’s spinebuster or high knee, or like Matt Hardy’s side effect. could it be Jennifer Needles have another finisher? Â
M.G.C. cheers [background music ninja rap] : GO! GO! GO ! GO! GO NEEDLES! GO NEEDLES GO! GO NEEDLES! GO NEEDLES GO! GO NEEDLES! GO NEEDLES GO! GO GO GO GO! NEEDLES! NEEDLES ROCK! NEEDLES! NEEDLES ROCK! NEEDLES! NEEDLES ROCK! GO GO GO GO!
M.G.C cheers: LET’S GO NEEDLES! LET’S GO! LET’SÂ GO NEEDLES! LET’S GO! LET’S GO NEEDLES! LET’S GO!Â
 M.G.C. battlecry: ROAR!  JENNIFER!………NEEDLES!………..ALL……..FALL………TO………..THE……..HELL’S………….BELLES….ROAR!!!RAAAAARR!!!!
Yeah have to add the kudos to the Japanese stranglehold depiction 🙂
And everyone loves a good facebuster, even the ‘Brina fans. I’ve just had a thought, the storyline could be ‘Brina losing the match and learning a lesson about being more streetwise about wrestling….then again if she does lose then she’ll have the stuffing kicked out of her by all three Hells Belles…
Hey ps2kid, glad I was able to surprise you with the belly ring. XD Yeah, Jennifer’s nasty like that, but she had good teachers. Your observations on what options Sabrina has left to her are on the mark. I agree and if Jennifer nails the Nose Job, its over for Sabrina. But, more on that Wednesday and I promise no April’s Fool jokes in regards to the comic.
Hey Darkmark, I’m glad that you enjoyed the update! I’m betting you’ll be back early for the next update. 😀
Yes, well said Ghosteraser. Sabrina has been taken a beating from Jennifer and Kat, its really starting to catch up to her. Assuming she doesn’t get help from somewhere else, Sabrina’s going to need to be awfully clever to get out of this.
Hi Svan, glad you liked the ‘straightjacket!’ Such a simple yet kind of humiliating move, considering its your own arms that are inflicting the damage.
Hey MGC, glad you liked the voting incentive of Snowy! Consider the Signature/Finishing move the same thing here though its not uncommon to have a few finishers. Currently, Jen only has the Nose Job as her finisher.
Thanks Prestwick, seems like that’s a popular move! That is a very good theory about Sabrina losing this match. We all know that she’s her own worst enemy in regards to the rules. Hell’s Belles post-match activities are a given, unless something can persuade them otherwise.
Welp, we haven’t seen the finisher hit yet, though it wouldn’t shock me if it did. It wouldn’t shock me if Sabrina kicked out anyway (though I KNOW MGC would be crying foul there, lol), though at like 2.9 and seven eighths. Not to mention it would be kind of an anticlimax, IMO… the ‘story’ of this match doesn’t really seem done yet, from this old school fan’s perspective. The whole ‘Chloe waiting in the wings’ bit has been a non-factor, and by Chekov’s gun rules, it needs to be. She either needs to intercept an Upstart or be shocked when an Upstart doesn’t show up. Her just hanging around uselessly is kind of ‘meh’, and I don’t think Albone believes in ‘meh’.
Actually, I’m looking at Sabrina’s legs there. She’s got them more under her than I usually see in a facebuster impact. By the time Jenifer was that committed to the landing, I’d expect Brina to be falling forward a lot more. I smell a block coming. Sabrina getting her hands out and landing on hands and knees, for instance.
If she can manage that, I see the speed suddenly coming into play too, because that’s the kind of thing that keeps an acrobatic wrestler like Sabrina energy. A quick pop to her feet and then a standing dropkick as Jennifer is still trying to get up maybe?
Just a thought. Besides, Adon is right, this just doesn’t feel over.
Can’t tell for sure, but it looks like Sabrina might be close enough to the ropes to grab them and avoid getting hit by the move.
Once again an intense action episode, so far this match is different in tempo from the drag out Loretta Diaz brawl. ( that’s a good thing; if all the matches were the same there wouldn’t be as much interest )
The colors in most of the panels are white and light pastels, seeming to favor Jennifer. The last two panels feature blue, hinting Sabrina will prevail going into the next comic. ( of course sudden reversals are an everyday thing around here ). The blue” THUD” tells us Sabrina knees Jen; otherwise some might think Jen slipped and hit her head. The colors are part of the visual language and we take it all in as part of the comic experience.
Gotta love the Action Hair illustrating the girls’ state of mind.
This is a hard ep to comment on without repeating what’s going on; as usual a well drawn eye-catching page.
I’ve been busy and it’s frustrating having to drop out for a week: I’ve had time to read and vote though.
Adon, I see you are a wise hand at these ‘story’ things. Definitely some loose ends out there, like the ones you suggested. I don’t think it will ruin any surprise that the bell (win, draw or otherwise) won’t be the end of the ‘story.’ 😉
Salazen, very good observation. I guess you could say that Jennifer rushed this a bit though that doesn’t mean anything. Hmmmm, I can’t really say much more. 😛
Hey Adam! That is an interesting observation. I think its a stretch but definitely interesting.
Hi RDF! Always enjoy your well thought comments. 🙂 I’m glad you liked the different pacing, I think its important myself to change it up. Very good read with the colored sound effects, I’m glad that its easy to follow. As always, thanks for voting and reading! I really appreciate it.
I just found the comic about 2 days ago and I have been enjoying it. Though, I thought I’d offer a bit of constructive criticism. The only problem I have with it are the fights. I find it hard keeping up with a fight when the drawings illustrating the fight are constantly skipping around.
For instance, would it be easy to watch any type of television show if the action sequence constantly skipped every couple of frames, and you were left to find out what happened in between by a series of narrations?
I’ve learned that it’s always better to show than tell. Granted, sometimes you have to leave out frames for the sake of speeding up the action, leaving out useless details or just easing the amount of work you have to do. However, especially in a fight, there has to be in-between frames from one action to the next. In animation, the in-betweens are the frames filled in to make one pose/movement flow into the other.
Last page, Sabrina was pinned down; this page, she was in a seated position with her arms crossed at her neck. What? I know the announcers tell us what went on, but even if this were a text book, the scene would have to be elaborately explained, with words that show the action, not tell.
From the last page to the beginning of this one, the sequence of events confused me, wondering why or how she is upright. The announcer saying something about a “kickout” doesn’t effectively show me, it merely tells me. With this being a comic, and its purpose is to show the events of a story, I feel it’s imperative that more in-between frames are drawn so that the fight doesn’t skip around too much. There are just some details that cannot be “left to the imagination” because it disrupts the flow of the fight. I mean, maybe a hardcore wrestling fan may understand what the announcer meant by “kickout” or even be able to see in their head what happened. Though, someone who hasn’t seen that much wrestling may not understand. I’m sure you would like to attract an expanse reader base, which means making sure the readers don’t get lost along these fights.
I really do enjoy the story, the characters, and the fact that it’s the first wrestling comic I’ve read. However, I would like to see the action sequences flow better, to improve the comic overall.
Hey Meep, thanks for the well thought and well written comments. You bring up a good point and it’s something that I hope to iron out with the upcoming wrestling card. I’m also thrilled that you are enjoying the story too. 🙂
