Christmas Angels – Page 02- Hometown Curse
Feb24
Are you guys familiar with the ‘Hometown Curse’ in professional wrestling? It’s totally a thing! Is it also the reason why Sabrina’s so keen to leave her hometown so quickly?
Wonderful art supplied by Dave Reynolds, find more of his work HERE.

Does “hometown curse” only occur with faces? Because that might be the reason for it, Face loses in their hometown to gather sympathy?
Of the top of my head, I only remember Sasha Banks losing at last year’s HiaC.
On the other hand, Punk won in his hometown twice, didn’t he? Once when he won the WWE title and then when he came back in 2013 after ‘Mania?
I notice it more with faces, and I think it’s more on them. Off the top of my head, The Steiners, Road Warriors, Sasha, the Rock, etc. are some that dropped at home. I think there’s more investment in the crowd seeing a hometown prospect losing. However, heels have their own trouble trying to get over in their hometown. As Rick Rude told Shane Douglas one time, a hometown heel is a ‘heel with no heat.’
It’s more of a guideline, but one that suited this story. Sabrina’s ecstatic about winning at home! But as you can see, she can’t wait to get out of there. O_o
Always wanted to see Sabby’s parents. Don’t let us down!
They’re coming up…next Wednesday. XD Or today on Patreon. XD
I am hoping her father is Batman!
My first impression was Ablone really changed up his art style and was like dang….that is a big change.
Ra’s Ah Gul. 😉
This is going to be an interesting first meeting between the girls and Sabrina’s family.
Everyone will be very excited. Except Sabrina.
Who’s in the doorway? I know. Sabrina sold her soul for the win and they are collecting.
SPOILER tag, Champ!! XD
the hometown curse is usually a face thing, but it’s happened a few times with heels who are briefly turned face sometimes by the hometown crowd (I remember ryback and curtis axel fairly recently) who promptly lose to kill off any start of a face turn.
however I do remember it not being the case as well where faces used to win at home (except JR- always seemed to be the exception to that) to keep the crowd happy and motivated. also I recall bret hart saying one time in a promo that “bret hart doesn’t lose in Canada” after he turned heel after the screwjob- though that could have just been him heeling- unless he was in Canada in which case he was cheered.
now that I think about it bret could have been the proto-cena (say a “prototype”?) as far as mixed crowd reactions after he and Austin did the double turn. bret would be cheered almost anywhere outside the US but was the top heel when they were in the US.
That bit with Bret was always pretty amazing, and I remember that extending to Lance Storm and the rest of the Canadian League, or whatever they were called. Lance would comment quite a bit on it on his blog, which was always interesting.
The’ Bret Hart’ doesn’t lose in Canada seems more heeling than anything, but kayfabe or not, sounds pretty awesome to say. lol
I think this curs Sabrina is trying to avoid has less to do with wins and losses and more to do with whoever those shadowy figures are. Her family perhaps? Not every family is happy with one of there own being in the sports entertainment business after all. Or it could be the opposite end of the spectrum.
I think you’ll enjoy finding out. 😉
I think the most surprising thing here is that Brooke has her suit zipped up all the way.
Brooke was doing Sabrina a solid by not showing her up. 😉
