Page 212 – Graduation Day
Lots of drama there at home between Sun and her Mom. As we saw from the beginning, not exactly the Gilmore Girls. Mom’s not too keen on her daughter becoming a wrestler. As we found out previously, we have her Dad to thank for Sun’s introduction to pro wrestling.
Graduation day sees Sun finish high school, have a knockdown drag out blowup with her Mom and then, leaving in the dead of night. Crashed out on the stoop in the dirty city when its raining isn’t the most ideal ways to make your start, but there she is. Sun’s still got a long way to go though before she’s ‘Lil Dragon.’
A few parallels here between Sun and Sabrina’s stories, if you remember way back on page 6. It might have something to do with why they get along so well.

SHIMMER
This weekend, the Mrs and I headed out to Berwyn, IL for a two day show of the best wrestling in the world, SHIMMER! It was like 10-12 hours of awesomeness spread out over a few days. I took a LOT of pictures, and have just a few below. Dig it!
I love the drama though..
Â
Hmm.. Wrath and Body Works, is that a wrestling school?
Â
Ah? what panel 6: Sword Skulls, glove, bone..
Â
Panel 3: you’re now leaving Auburn Hills.. what’s beyond that?
pANEL 7: Good thing Sun doesn’t get rob..
Â
peace!
Actually, Mom’s right… But, that’s a moot point now, isn’t it? Sun’s lucky a friend picked her up while she was hitchhiking – her “wrasslin'” career could have been short lived…
Â
I checked out the Shimmer link you have, and watched the introductory video – jeeze! Those ladies are brutal! How long can a Shimmerian stay in the business before her body gives out? Forget water-boarding, we should have enlisted a few of these ladies to “talk” to our guests at Club Gitmo!
MGC, you are right in assuming that’s the name of the wrestling school. Â More to come on that on Friday. Â The WORLD is beyond Auburn Hills! Â But we can assume she’s heading for Detroit. Â Sun knew she was taking a risk, but she felt kind of desperate. Â Glad you liked the update!
Lately the comic has been all about transititions… Mom really felt Sun would do better with a college education; evidently Sun rejected the idea outright, not considering trying out for the women’s wrestling team…Â In this world, does Title Nine exist? Without it there would be much less in college sports for women.
To be admitted for college here in California for the fall term, you want to apply by March 1st and take the SAT by mid April at the latest… a community college would not have as long a lead time; a few weeks as opposed to several months. Or does Mom want Sun to apply for the spring term?
You could say Sun is in a great spot; she has nowhere to go but up!
Hey RDF! Sun’s current situation isn’t very rosey, so she’s got nothing to lose. 😛 Â Oh, definitely title IX exists. Â Sun’s exuberance comes from the personal recommendation of her idol, Cannonball Kyle Pallas. Â Right or wrong, that has more weight than Mom. Â Really it comes down to that Sun never had any intention of going to school and I think we know that her Mom knew that, which is why she spring ‘college’ on Sun, so to speak. Â We know that Sun makes it to Rival Angels, but does that mean Sun’s mom is wrong? Â More to come!Â
I hope she knows what she’s getting into. Wrasslin schools are expensive, and require a lot of dedication. And sleeping outside when it’s raining and you’ve been soaked is a good way to catch a cold.
A little OT, but how do you choreograph your matches? Do you have, for example, the whole match planned out and then pick and choose which parts you show or highlight?Â
Zodo, Sun’s in for a fun, rough, wild ride. Â She’s betting on this being the right thing for her. Â Sun feels she HAS to make this work. Â We’ll see how well she does.
Sun is mixed blood? She has a Caucasian mother?
Yep! She is a third generation American with Korean, Japanese and Chinese descendants.
