When I do comic conventions, I like to have something to work on during the down time and that’s when I open up commissions. Kite2014 from DeviantArt commissioned me to this cool pic of his OC Tusmi trapping Sabrina in her signature hold, the Spider Twist!
All right I am not longer the only one in these series to be on the wrong end of the move.
I like the pink mask on Tusmi.
GAH!
‘BRINA!!
What have I told you about these things!?!
Wiggle Free!
WIGGLE!!
…odd
Someone who wasn’t me requested a Spider Twist commission. I find this both pleasing and irritating because now I have to dig even deeper into the obscure hold archive for my next bit of arty goodness. That said, I think Sabs is done for the night, Tsumi’s got it locked in perfectly and well away from the ropes. (Starts ‘TAP!’ chant)
Her left arm’s essentially unfettered, and her hand’s right by Tsumi’s face.
Do I need to put the red for right ribbon on your wrist again?
Hmmm… I see a variation on a sleeper there as well, look at Tsumi’s hands and right leg, possible sleeper/possible choke? This is a pretty effective submission move I think, but I have to agree, as long Sabrina keeps her head, she’s got outs…
Well, since Tsumi’s shin is up against the SIDE of Sabrina’s face, the only reason there’d be any sort of choke is that Tsumi’s hands are both clutching her neck, which isn’t actually legal.
I’ve never been able to get a really solid angle on this hold (and writing it out in prose is nothing short of a colossal pain) but from what I can tell it’s more of a Neck Crank than an actual submission hold. Presuming Sabs still had the presence of mind to do so she could probably swipe a few shots at Tsumi’s head with her left hand, but I think she’d be better served trying to free up her right arm so she could roll Tsumi onto her shoulders for a pin. Of course all that depends on just how long she’s been trapped.

Ahhhhh, ok, I see it now.
Isn’t this a koji clutch? I’m fine with catchy new names, especially if there’s a little variation.
But I’m really confused. Since when is a neck crank not a submission hold? I’ll gladly put you through a couple and see how you like it The only reason you don’t see them in grappling and mma is because they’re banned as too dangerous.
Hey there,
Checking over my original message, I see I typed ‘submission’ when I meant to type ‘strangle’ hold. Yes, a Neck Crank is very much a submission and I certainly didn’t mean to offend any of the practitioners out there. That said, it’s similar to, but not identical to the Koji Clutch, as the Spider Twist is applied when the victim is on their back while the Koji Clutch is applied with the victim on their stomachs. CM Punk busts one out from time to time, ignore Cole calling it the Anaconda Vice…

We love seeing Sabrina have to grunt and groan!
