Night series of pictures Albone.
Xtina: deserves (and has?) lots of fans in The Dome ;-).
Oh boy, Albone. It’s weird, being a Toronto native, but that introduction just sounds weird for a Canadian immigrant girl.
It’s two things:
A) “A city girl with big city dreams”….If you are from the T.O., you got a love/hate relationship with the USA. Being the fourth largest city in North America, you don’t have the “big city” dream. (If you ask Canadians which city they hate the most, it’s between Toronto and Ottawa for number one status. Toronto are known to be a bit prideful/haughty/”big shots” compared to the rest of Canada. Ottawa have the federal government). There is a mentality that states, “You have to go to the US to truly succeed”, but that’s disappearing.
B) “participating in softball, track and cheerleading”. Softball, Somewhat. Track, yes. Cheerleading, NO. I work with a youth group and VERY few immigrant females goes in cheerleading, especially in Toronto. Cheerleading is not big here, especially in the downtown core where she would have lived (There is a small Spanish community in downtown Toronto). Field Hockey, Volleyball. women hockey would be much more believable than Cheerleading. We are a hockey nation. Hockey does not have Cheerleaders.
Sorry to post it, but I do love the characters and your work in general. That bio just needs to be improved a bit.
Hey! Thanks for the post and for being a reader! But I think you got me wrong on Xtina’s city notes. Would it help if I wrote, ‘she’s a BIG city girl with big city dreams?’ Certainly not a knock on Toronto, as it happens, it’s one of two places that I would love to move to and I consider it to be a cleaner version of Chicago.
I won’t split hairs on the cheerleading bit other than I happen to know that high school cheerleaders exist in Toronto and that they are quite competitive. That last bit is a defining trait of Xtina’s even if the sport itself necessarily doesn’t.
A Big City Girl with big city dreams definitely fits better.
As for cheerleading, if you need to keep it, go ahead. The sport is SO under the radar in Toronto, it isn’t funny (Compared to the US). You never hear about it on the news/youth.
Definition of irony – honoring a Canadian on Memorial Day. If any girl has give more blood sweat and tears for RA it’s Monica Rumble. Anyone sacrifice her body so much than the Mighty Mite? 🙂
Xtina got the spotlight because it’s Monday and she’s in a match, and Kat’s been spotlighted. I think if it lines up right, Monica would certainly be in line for a spotlight. Good to know that she has fans! XD
