Chapter 7-Page-19-Broken
May15
I’ve heard a few indy wrestlers saying that it’s better to take the chairshot to the head then break your hand trying to block it. Unfortunately, Krystin didn’t really have any choice in the matter.
Now where did Amanda and Sun get off to?

Who cares why? Your continued employment in the professional wrestling industry is reason enough in my book.
Isn’t the answer to Why? Because?
Kat will share her answer with us next update. π
Stay down Brooke, so that you live to take revenge. REVENGE!!!
I don’t think staying down will help in this case. The only way she would have gotten away with staying down would have been if she had passed out.
Maybe not even then.
Wow. Hells Belles are showing some great teamwork there… unfortunately for Brooke, she’s no longer on the team.
Are you sure this is the way Helles Belles says you are fired?
The new and improved Belles work well together, mores the pity for Brooke!
GAH!!
Kat Smith on hand again when broken bones are taking place!
I should shove my foot so far up her ass that my boot will never be coming back out!
*Angry Pout*
If you’re happy and you know it Kick Kat!
If you’re happy and you know it Kick Kat!
If you’re happy and you know it
You foot will surely show it!
If you’re happy and you know it Kick Kat!
Yeesh! Talk about a waste of a good boot…
Kat would love a rematch. π
Heck let Sammie at her!
Only a miracle could save these girls now from bodily harm. π
Yet, who would stop their attackers from attacking them ?
Well not sure who would. And for some reason I doubt that charges will be pressed against them or that the league will ban them.
Who’s to say that anyone will want to come out? Krystin, and Brooke don’t have a lot of friends. Damage Inc will be ready to help, if they need to help Sun.
Once again my thought here failed. I was certain she would duck and Kat would get a surprise chair to the face.
The Belles are playing with their A-game.
Getting Gabby on the phone again to get everyone fired over Krystin’s injury.
Gabby is watching this very grumpily.
Yeah, while I’m pretty sure that most of this is “relatively” within the bounds of heel activity, the momment you cause serious physical harm OUTSIDE of the match, you’ve crossed a line.
Point and fact, Def tech broken hand means she’s out of comission for a while, meaning no one can legitimately challenge for that belt for a while, and that means lost money for Rival angels.
Hells Belles, you idiots.
Errrr there’s that little clause in tiny print…
they can just say “well if krystin can’t defend in “X” days she’s stripped of the title.”
That may be true, but that depends on your definition of “legitimate”. Rules wise, yes, she can lose it. But it was never beaten out of her in an epic PPV match in that case. What makes more money, and what’s more exciting to watch? A vicious bloody beatdown for the belt? Or “Sorry, since your hand got broken by a chair (Took what, 5 seconds?) we’re gonna have to take that from you…”
ah but this way they can have another epic style tournament to re-crown the new TV champion…hmm that sounds kinda familiar, tv title tourney… but anyway, with krystin’s rematch clause available for when she recovers to face the new tourney winner.
plus there’s the old “no one can possibly survive that fall!” rule. unless krystin has a medical degree we don;t know about there’s no confirming that her hand is really broken til the trainers take a good look at it.
To Adder, who says,
You must understand that nature of the injury doesn’t matter. Time is time. Let’s say, in Hypothetical Wrestling Association, the Secondary Championship titleholder gets into a car accident. They’ll be out for 4 months for recovery. Okay, now what? Few things…
~1) It grinds the division to a halt.~
Why risk your own health having matches related to that championship division when you can’t do anything about it? You’re wasting time jockeying for position to challenge a belt that you’ll need to wait 120 days to do anything about. People will lose interest in challenging for that title, because why should they put their careers on hold? They’ll just go for another title, either bypassing that secondary championship altogether or going for a tertiary or special attraction title. You can’t force them to sit still and wait until the secondary title champion comes back.
~2) It promotes laziness/holding back.~
Same example still, champ out for 4 months. Even if everybody else in the division wanted to stay competitive to get into a good position, the ladder would be skewed toward later matches. For the first 90 days you could take it easy, no point in fighting too hard for position while everyone else kills themselves to stay put or move up or down own. Then in the last 30 days, your laid back person could switch gears, go ham on everyone else who exhausted themselves for the first 90 days trying not to lose their spot. Now, there wouldn’t just be one person who realizes this… everyone would realize that you only need a string of a few good matches to secure a championship opportunity, so multiple wrestlers will conserve their efforts to keep themselves fresh for the later stretch of time before the champ comes back. The result? People holding back in matches. The fans can tell when this occurs, and while they might accept this once or twice, when the fans know that they’re getting less of a show for their money than what they could get, they will defect (in a business sense), leave your product, ignore you for a while, not spend money on you. That hurts the company and hurts the sport and industry. While yes, a wrestler typically wouldn’t want those things to be negatively effected, it’s a sort of tragedy of commons… it hurts things overall if they hold back, even as it individually benefits all of them to do so. You have to hope that they choose the more communally-beneficial option, but you shouldn’t count on everyone to choose the unselfish path.
~3) The fans themselves forget about the championship.~
After all, they’ve had many other shows to focus on other things. The title is worked out of the program, worked out of feuds, worked out of active focus. Nothing and nobody is actively concerned with it as athletes because they can’t wait around for that belt to come back. And inevitably, as all the athletes find other things to do, the show fills the gap somehow. As such, a championship that four months ago was an integral part of the show now feels like an extraneous distraction when that champion comes back with the title after 120 days of getting used to it not being around. You can’t hold a tournament for it to retain/regain interest because there’s already a champion. Why? Because how will it look on paper? If the challenger wins, well the champ had 4+ months of ring rust, of course they were going to have a hard time winning. New champ’s win thus looks less credible. And what if the champ retains? This goes back to point number 2 — why should the rest of the wrestlers agree to run themselves ragged earning a shot at a champion who got to just sit back and watch the whole time? So the challenger underwent a grueling series of opponents and is tired and hurt… the champion had at least 120 days to rest up before the fight. Champ’s win looks like they were fed an easier match, and that looks less credible, too.
This is why companies will put in clauses that say that, okay if you get hurt and can’t work for a little we’ll let you rest. And we don’t want to immediately strip you of your title because maybe you can come back quick. Typically, if you’re medically-projected to be unbookable for over one month, a company that runs weekly shows will go ahead and say that you must be stripped of your championship. Since it’s not your fault, though, when you return you can be fast-tracked into contendership as long as you can prove you’re still up to form, since nobody defeated you for the championship in the first place it would be somewhat unfair to ask you to start completely at the bottom of the entire company rankings ladder to work your way up again.
Gabrielle has been known to get very upset when injuries occur needlessly, and we’ve seen her do what’s best for business. That’s not helpful is it? π Well, someone’s going to be made an example of.
I’ve seen Ratings overturn what’s fair more than once.
*grumble*
Wow! Wicked page! But a broken hand? Maybe it’s time to call out the locker room. Hmmmmm
“Hmmmmm”
Just the sort of bold, decisive leadership we’ve come to expect from you, Bren…
Well I’m not sure if this is a walks softly but carry a big stick moment, a damn the torpedoes full speed ahead moment, or a Kodak moment.
I’m pretty sure it’s a “not my problem” moment…
Glad to see it crossed your mind. π
also i think damage inc will eventually come in to save Sun, they don;t really care about the other two upstarts but sun and amanda’s brawling to soon be a 4 on 1 attack on Sun can;t go unanswered.
i do like the thought that Brooke thought she was so amazing that the belles would never turn on her… after being dragged through dark match hell then failing in her first attempt on the main show. i’m now with whoever it was that said they really wanted Amanda not brooke (after all chloe did try to recruit amanda once before) but had to take brooke as a package deal til they had an excuse to boot her.
I think Callie brought that bit up about Amanda.
Currently, she and Sun are missing…oh wait, VI… XD
One has to ask: Don’t the refs do *anything* in this promotion?
Umm, do the refs do anything anywhere?
The refs bail at the sign of trouble after a match.
Officials are not generally the most courageous of sorts…
That’s why they’re officials and not athletes. lol
What about “security?” There’s security to protect the wrestlers from the fans (and vice-versa) but no “protect wrestlers from each other for sake of not ruining ticket sales or having to pay out downsides.”
I mean, sure, part of it is that you don’t put butts in seats with fair contests but in good vs evil. Somebody cheats and there’s no one walking out (most times) to restart or reverse the decision. Instead, there’s a rematch booked (sometimes) because the money is in the return contest. Likewise, you tolerate a certain corruptive gang element because as long as they rein themselves in they create drama and tension and anger that results in people buying your program to really really really hope to see them get their comeuppance… even if just for one match. But then someone goes too far and you can’t get a match out of it and you just lost thousands to millions of potential booking dollars.
Owners/presidents/whatever of wrestling companies then become like, actuaries. They have to determine the overall risk of letting the inmates have the run of the asylum before they go too crazy and start costing the place too much money and then have to be let go.
Kat will want to prove that she’s vicious and devious and alpha enough to keep her troops in line and doing whatever she says, but she also has to walk a fine line because she was there to see Chloe basically work herself out of Rival Angels. Kat obviously doesn’t want that… I think her plan here to make examples out of people who aren’t as popular as Sabrina is a first critical calculation to keep the group (or Kat) from receiving too much in the way of repercussions.
And Black Widow worked herself out of a job too. Gabrielle appreciates the fine line of appeasing the mob and going to far. I don’t mind telling you that this situation will get the attention it deserves. After all, Gabrielle isn’t too keen on her champions getting jumped.
Wow, Jen being competent and Kat letting the girls have all the fun. Now, if we can just find a reason for all of this beat down.
I could see tossing Krystin out working over Brooke for her failure but crippling the champ could mean another wave of suspensions for the Belles.
And Sun, why on Earth would you take you fight with Amanda INTO the ring? (Peeked at the VI).
This is going to end with a heap of Upstart bodies and the Belles reclaiming their Top Cats status. Message sent.
Since no one’s ringing the bell most of us in the back are just now seeing this happen. Goldie, Bren… do we need to go clear the ring?
ah but you see- the belles fiendishly stole all the faces theme music before the match began. and if the wwe has taught us anything, it’s that no one can do a run-in until their theme music plays. nods wisely
JPIV makes a good point. But I think you’re right. Enough is enough.
Jen’s been stepping it up lately. If she’s not suspended (lol) we’ll see more of her. Kat is playing the general, despite her earlier machinations not working out, she’s enjoying herself now.
Hell’s Belles ARE gunning for their spot up on top and so far, doing a good job.
Great action here, love it :D, but I expect a quick safe ;-). Sun comes to the rescue and perhaps Sabrina is nearer by than expected :).
Sabrina better start flapping her wings if she wants to get here in time! Come to think of it, this is the first chapter that I can remember that we haven’t had her in it. O_o
Sun might make the save…but it would be more about her than Brooke and Krystin. π
I admit to being curious about their motivation my own self. Is it jealousy? It could totally be jealousy. I’m guessing Brooke stole one (or all) of their men.
So far, she’s only stolen you and Michael. That we know of. XD
I think I may offer some coaching to Krystin. If the stable scene continues along this path we’re going to need to beef up the ranks of the good guys. For example there’s a bunch of ways to get out of that restraint. I’d have popped the bubbly to see Kat get clobbered. But in the long term I’d be facing the improved Krystin. But in the medium term, she might fend off Callie. O! What a tangled web!
Pffft. If she tried to “fend” me off, she’d still have wound up with something broken. I just wouldn’t have needed a chair for it.
Well, the Belles prove once again that thinking isn’t their strong point. You put a wrestler on the shelf with injury, they still collect a paycheck without actually being in the ring performing. That costs the company money, and if there’s one thing that Gabby doesn’t like, it’s losing money because her girls wanna prove they’re bigger and badder than they really are. (lets face it, the Belles are 1 for 3 tonight.) And if that’s the case, Jen had better be careful with her loss to Kyra Gold earlier in the night. Jut because you polish Kat’s pearl doesn’t mean you’re a good wrestler.
Depends on whether or not Rival Angels’ contracts have guaranteed salary.
I mean mine does, but not everyone might have the pull to get that…
Hmm, a lot of people are saying the Belles made a big mistake here, breaking Krystin’s hand. I think that while Gabrielle is going to do something, (Albone as outright said so here), I’m not sure that it’ll be a boot out of the company. Black Widow and Chloe (who I still don’t know why MGC keeps calling her ‘White Queen’) had built up a string of fouls that ultimately got them nailed. For a promoter, dropping talent is a last resort, especially if they’re high profile.
And I’m not sure it matters, but it is not clear that Jennifer was aiming for Krystin’s hand. She was just making a chair shot, and Krystin put up a hand to protect herself, which backfired on her. While the damage is the same, I do think that will factor into whatever Gabrielle decides.
Plus, well, this is getting the Belles noticed. Kat is working to re-establish them as a top heel stable, and beatdowns like this are how you do that.
That said, I think that if Krystin is sidelined for too long, she needs to drop the belt. Television championships are by definition something that needs to be defended regularly on TV. If that’s waived, the belt loses a lot of its value. Any title is as important as the company treats it to be. That’s why in WWE the US and IC titles are largely afterthoughts — they aren’t treated as important and a title change isn’t seen as a big deal when they happen seemingly at random without buildup.
