Chapter 9-Page-17-Back Again
Sep13
The return of Vince! He went on a couple of dates with Sabrina and almost ruined her career. And from the flashback, you can see that Kat isn’t too happy to see him either. After all, he does seem to be showing a little bit of bias. (and those paying attention, technically, a Chloe sighting. ) XD
You can check out the backstory HERE.
Voting Incentive!
This is going to get messy. Vote to see what’s coming up on Wednesday!
Vince? Meh.
Kind of disappointed.
Gads! He looks like a ref! lol
But I kinda think he needs back up because what’s he going to do during the ground pound after he DQs the bruiser?
Wave his finger?
Look on with disapproval?
Sweep his arms about?
Count to Five?
Be generally useless?
I’ve learned to not rely on the Officials XP
well you know what they say…
Well who cares about this?
Sabrina will since he seems to be a ref in her pocket! lol
Her what? *looks closer
Don’t worry, he’s going to call it right down the middle, fair and square. After all, he is (or was) a REAL referee, and is totally unbiased and impartial.
Yeah.
Probably more impartial than I would be X3
We might have to test that theory. XD
However angry he might be at the Belles, he probably wants his job back more than he wants revenge, so I’d imagine his intention is to call it right down the middle.
However, intention and result don’t always perfectly coincide…
Weeell… I’m going to assume that there’s more coming that will make this interesting.
Ex-Boyfriends make everything interesting! Ex-Boyfriends who have control over the future success of your career are dangerous!
*nod*
I have to admit that I think I may have overestimated this bit, but I’m glad someone got it. 🙂
Well…I am a sharp cookie XD
naaa That couldn’t be it… I think you plied the boss with a Fosters or three.
MEEP!
*covers Baby ‘Brina’s little Baby ears*
These are naughty words!
Naughty!
*Switches on my Paris street mime mode, playing the sexy ref
Y’know Brenda, I give you a lot of stick, but I have to say that I’m actually quite a fan of your mime routine,
Why thank youuuuuuu! xD
*trying not to look suspicious now* So, you want an autograph or something?
Ahem. Brenda, I think she’s trying to say she likes it best when you’re not talking.
😀
Recalling Vincent last moment…I can see this will cause a bit of tension considering what has happen to Sabrina recently. 🙁
Well played plot twist indeed. 🙁
I was expecting Sun. I didn’t even remember Vince TBH.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding LOL.
In my country most refs prefer a “certain” “sportsteam”, and it´s very clear, I dislike that. Because of that that team “won” many prices :(.
Well let´s look a Vince´s decisions, if he´s an honest ref ;-).
Vince is showing bias a little early. XD
The last panel tells a lot…
Speaking for the last time about “a certain sportsteam”. They won tonight with 2-1 because at a 0-0 score, the first goal of their opponents was “surprisingly” disallowed for off side. And yes it wasn´t off side :(!!!. So another stolen victory.
Back to R.A.: Sabrina vs the strong & experienced Hell´s Belles 3-1 after this match or can Kat score the equilizer? Game on :D! Rock on!

This one´s for Vince :p! http://youtu.be/s2z8TpFV748
Kin refs 😉
Hmmm, Well I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting Vince. Though looking back on it, it’s one hell of a choice. Will he try and screw Brina over for getting him canned? Or will he favor Brina and taint her victory, resulting in a very angry Ultragirl.
The special guest referee is….a referee.
Well that’s a novel use of the stipulation. 😛
damn you for mentioning this in the time it took me to type my reply (shakes fist ineffectually)
^—- Nailed it —–^
I do work in mysterious way Muahahahaaa
a first in wrestling history- the special guest ref is actually.. a REF!
still don;t trust him though, swerve senses starting to tingle…
There is, naturally, a swerve, but I may have outsmarted myself. I hope you guys enjoy anyways.
Seems I’m not alone in thinking that after all this buildup, the guest ref turning out to be someone nobody has thought or cared about for a long time is kind of a letdown. I’m confident that there’s a swerve coming… remember that Sabrina’s breakup with Vince was not a friendly one. So while he’s playing up being biased against Kat, I suspect he’s looking to screw Sabrina over. (Not like that! Though he probably wouldn’t turn down the opportunity.)
Smith’s counts are like 1-2-3.
Sabby gets a count like 1….(go get a coffee)…2…(oh look, a pretty chick in the crowd)…wait, what was my count again? Well, let’s start over.
Better be nice to him, Sabby. He’ll do you some favors.
I’m glad wrestling and non-wrestling fans are hip to this. XD
You have taught me well, my friend.
Bossman, the page looks great – no get Mo Chen wrong. I think a lot of us had already in mind what gonna’ happen.
On the swerve scale, you just short of Vince Russo… but I think most of us had completely forgotten about Michael. Widow and Coco and Krystin and even Chloe were still so fresh in our heads.
Phfft!
I totally remembered.
I remembered well.
I remember all things of relevance.
I remember where Brenda thinks she can hide cookies.
*nom*
I DID want to be a surprise, though I think MGC guessed it as soon as he saw the cover. I thought to myself, who would be the absolute worst person to ref this match? Everyone but Vincent seemed obvious.
I had three people proof this script (two of them you’ve met in real life) and they didn’t raise any red flags, not that anything is their fault, just that if they thought something was wrong, they’d tell me. It’s possible they didn’t see anything wrong because they have the benefit of seeing what’s coming next.
A few people here get what’s coming (or can guess what’s coming) but I’m curious as to where the disconnect is between the people that see it and those who don’t, for my own growth as a writer.
Like I said before, as disappointed as you guys are, I hope you enjoy the rest of the match.
For me, it was several things:
A) I haven’t seen Vince in over 100 pages. I had a “Who is he again” moment? “He was missing” moment?
B) Why did Michael go and battle Gabrielle to bring him back? What’s the issue with him and Gabrielle again?
C) The other choices seemed juicier. You just brought Sabrina back from Japan and restarted the Upstarts issues. We still haven’t seen 1) The rest of the Locker room reaction to Sabrina nor 2) her answer to Yoshi. And suddenly, we are bringing up an ex-boyfriend. Seemed a bit much to read about.
To me, it probably takes tension away from this match. I’m actually curious to know if Sabrina can beat Kat Smith cleanly. Any ref interference seems unnecessary and forced. A current Rival Angel wrestler works because it sets up the next rivalry during Krystin healing period. This ex-boyfriend storyline could have been pushed back a bit (to the next match. I would care about him more if I knew Sabrina’s status. Any reaction to him will be taken multiple ways because we don’t know if she is single, going steady or engaged. Also, we have no idea of Vince knowledge of the proposal).
At the moment as a reader, I’m curious to see how much Sabrina grew as a wrestler in Japan, not deal with additional emotional baggage for her. Did she improve enough to beat Kat? Now, you are trying to juggle quite a few plotlines, here. I think that I would have prefer to see the Sabrina Japan wrestling growth storyline finished here, then go to the ex-boyfriend/Yoshi angle + Sabrina growth + TV title like you are attempting here.
Hey Anthony, thanks for the great, thoughtful reply. 🙂
I was hoping that A would have been answered in panels 2 and 3 of this page, but I’m hoping that the next few updates will shine more light on A and B.
As for C, I was hoping that Hell’s Belles and Krystin’s reactions to Sabrina returning would show that, BUT, the locker room is going to become a very important feature this season, including how it looks as Sabrina and vice versa.
I have high hopes that I can get everyone I lost back by the end of this chapter.
Thank you again, Anthony. 🙂
Now if Vince gets knocked out I bet the next special guest ref will be de Sade… Now that would be a swerve factor making you grab the “Oh Shte” handle on the Swervy mobile.
Vincent! I knew it! *flail* He seems like he’s grown a spine since last we saw him. Don’t fall for his charms, Sab!
He’s changed a bit since we last saw him. Got a bit of a nasty streak, from the sound of it. A heel turn is really good for some people.
As surprised and delighted as I’m not to see Vince here, it does create kind of an interesting dynamic. On one hand, he’s got some bad memories of Kat Smith. She could be in some trouble. On the other hand, emotions and impartial refereeing don’t mix. I know I wouldn’t want an ex for a ref. Will Vince put the screws to Sabrina because of the dumping and cost her a title shot, or will he favor her and taint her victory?
Whatever happens, I still expect Sabrina to win.
No problem, Albone. I look forward to seeing the rest of the chapter. I do expect several of those questions to be answered in this chapter (with more questions of course to ask anew. That’s the fun of storytelling).
p.s. I tried searching for the last appearance of Vince (the firing) through the archives. That information really isn’t easy to find. I know the overall storyline pretty good, but that part escaped me.
In the blog section above, I posted a link to Vince’s last appearance, the alleyway beatdown.
Otherwise, a search for Vincent in the SEARCH box to the left of the blog notes should get you started.
And again, thanks for the great responses and I hope you dig what’s coming up. 🙂
