Chapter: Chapter 9 - Second Chances
Characters: Gabrielle Reni, Michael Welker
Location: Rival Angels Headquarters
Sabrina’s not fired…yet. She might wish she had once she finds out who’s coming to collect on the bill.
SHIMMER!
SHIMMER weekend is almost here and it the best wrestling federation, period and they happen to feature the ladies exclusively. Some of my favorites are Cheerleader Melissa, Nicole Matthews, Leva Bates, Cherry Bomb, Christina Von Errie, Sarya, Athena, MsChif and everyone else. Will you be there tomorrow? Who are some of your favorites?
Voting Incentive!
In honor of this being SHIMMER weekend, check out a picture I did of SHIMMER’S Leva and Allison Danger, Regeneration X!
I’m “guessing” that’s Sun.
I guess she has decided to be Gabriella’s attack dog while Krystin is out.
I don’t think Sun can be bought that easy.
Let the guessing begin!
told jya! not fired, the bills the only key people are chlo, and yvonne who can pay those bills, since we haven’t seen chlo, we go for yvonne, yet may, and that shadow girl is simple, with blue highlight, that lilz dragon
And we will have to wait until next week to find out for sure, Cure you Albone the Artist !
NOT fired, but what does that mean for Sabrina long-term?
brah!! lolz we might as Deckard cain for that, poor leah
What doesn’t kill her makes her stronger.
Yet death is lighter than a feather, duty heavier than a mountain.
Redheads who speak in cliches speak best.
Also: NEEEERRRRRRRDDDD! 😀
Take your meds, dear…
Rose are red
Violets are blue
Sometimes Brenda
Gives me the flu
I make Brenda stronger by letting her clean out the litter box.
She gets down right ugly if I wait for the staff. Dang!
Brenda you win the internets today with Wheel of Time reference!!!!!
I’m going for an Emmy next. Thank you! * curtsey
For costume design, maybe. No one ever believes that’s your real face.
and Brenda Rue out of nowhere with the Wheel of Time quote
So Gabrielle has turned into a generic evil promoter. *groan* Okay, this is the update you asked me to give it, but I think the ‘evil authority figure’ has been done to death in wrestling. To be fair, Gabrielle rarely appears on camera for the shows, but for the reader it amounts to the same thing since we’re privy to stuff that happens when the cameras aren’t rolling. It’s just that it’s a well that’s been dipped into far too often, especially by WWE, and I think it’s high time the GMs/McMahons stay out of sight 90% of the time. That means that when they DO come out, it’s treated as something important.
Anyway, rambly bit, will likely be skimming the rest of the arc. Sorry Albone, it’s just brushing on a number of my pet peeves.
What do you mean she just turned evil? If you remember she threatened Krystin’s job and turned her into her attack dog and sent her to hurt Sara. She tried to shaft Brooke less than a month into her career without a fair chance and put her job on the line in a match against a team she knew neither she or Sabrina could defeat.
She didn’t just start being bad, she has always been a two faced snake, good to some, bad to others. She’s Vince and Linda combined.
She’s always been good to Sabrina until now, until she disobeyed her direct orders.
Gabrielle’s a lot like other people…she’s got a good side and a bad side.
ON the WWE and TNT I find it funny when people buy into the fact that no one gets the camera footage and puts out a law suit. Do you really think evil people like that would talk that way in front of cameras?
Maybe stick around for the other arcs?
I think I’m well within my rights to say that I wrote this chapter back in March before any of the Authority stuff was happening. I’m not a fan of what’s going on with Daniel Bryan and HATE what they’re doing with Big Show. Also, Triple H wants to be the center of attention. Gabrielle wants nothing to do with it. In this case, I’m summoning less WWE and more BRAVE.
Gabrielle isn’t mad at Sabrina because she doesn’t think she’s best for business. She’s mad at Sabrina because she didn’t follow her orders and thinks that’s going to set a bad example.
That’s Danielle Perfection
This makes sense.
Danielle could still have an axe to grind with Sabrina, but would Ms. Perfection NEED any extra incentive?
I seriously overestimated Gabby. Petty tyrant, then. Sad little queen of a sad little hill. Got it.
Apart from the ending, the Vince-as-referee story underwhelmed me. Gabby and Marina doubling down on stupid for no reason… not helping. Just not feeling this story yet.
Vincent as referee was a disappointment since he’d probably disappear again after this and we would completely forget about him again.
Miss Kat won’t forget him anytime soon. I’m thinking she might meet up with him in a dark alley again.
Marina’s still on Sabrina’s side. She tried to reason with Sabrina. As it is, Gabrielle has backed off her firing claims, at least for now.
We’re not done with Vince either. O_o
All this twaddle about Gabrielle being “evil” or a tyrant is bollocks.
You all might work in places with HR departments and sensitivity trainings, but Gabby’s a WRESTLING PROMOTER. It is as cut-throat a business as you can get short of one that involves cutting actual throats. For f***’s sake we just watched a REFEREE try to enact personal vengeance. You know what wrestlers call promoters who are buddy-buddy with the locker room? Money marks.
As in all professions, the boss has to make the decisions and keep order, but unlike most professions, one set of employees (wrestlers) has an unusually high amount of power, because as the faces of the company, (to steal another line,) we are what the punters see. Now, to be fair, we’re what they PAY to see, so you can make the very legitimate point that we deserve that power, but in the end, the boss still has to be in charge, and in our business, that means taking a hard line against defiance.
You make a good point… assuming that all decisions coming out of the office are good ones. In this scenario, we have a completely horrible match concept that, predictably, went terribly. There was no contingency plan. The best that could be improvised is “go along with it, get the bad win and we’ll sort it out later” to a wrestler put into a match DESIGNED to emphasize what a personal, emotional stake she has in it. Said wrestler managed to turn this train wreck of a match into something the fans loved.
This was an important moment for Gabby. She could have sided with the audience and Sabrina, recognizing that her office created a bad situation and taken steps to resolve it… or she could have made it all about control. She chose to make it about control. That’s a bad situation, because it wasn’t about control until after she made that decision, and framing the situation that way makes her look bad. If she’d handled the situation properly, she’d have looked like a sharp manager who could handle unexpected difficulties, instead of a petty tyrant more interested in her own ego than what’s right or what’s actually good for business.
Totally agree with you here. A leader manages both expectations and perceptions. She was perfectly set to lay this out before both the fans and the locker room in a favorable light. It’s called spin control.
She’s made the job a whole lot worse now.
You do have a point. Her job is to make money. But in this case she blew it by making it to obvious. If she had been smart she would have gone down ring side and called out Vince (even if she didn’t mean it) and made herself into a heroine. Now she is looking alike a cow,
Yay, Michaels okay. His plan didn’t happen the way he hoped but he got what he wanted in the end.
Given the difficulty Brooke sometimes has sitting down, I’d say he usually does…
Ew.
Surely that’s just from getting her butt kicked all the time?
snickers
Michael’s an idiot and a menace and should be fired. He created a train wreck. Sabrina managed to fix it without alienating the fans. Now Michael’s watching the boss come down on Sabrina for it and not saying a word.
If I was gabrielle Id fire Michael right here. I’d probably have fired him for the whole Brooke fiasco..
Michael is NOT in the clear yet. Just sayin.
Also, his jacket is buttoned up in one panel and open in the other.
Well in the panel that got edited out his shirt was unbutton and Gab was drooling as she looked at his chest and agreeing with him.
Are you implying that Michael has hypnotic chest hair that makes Gabi make bad calls?
Hey, welcome back Mr. Ogre!!
On the question of who it is Gabrielle’s asking to enact payback on the blonde tart, I’m disinclined to buy it being either Sun or Danielle simply because I can’t see either of them being in the room when Gabby exhibits her frustration.
In the events of last night, we can see Ms. Reni has a temper, and one that can get the better of her, but I still think she prefers to maintain a cooler posture with all but trusted associates. Why Michael counts as such is unclear, but he does, apparently. So who might this other woman be? Danielle’s only had one match. Sun? Perhaps more likely, but still quite young. Surely she’s not any sort of confidante to Gabba.
No, I’m going to guess that that woman is exactly who you’d think would be in an executive meeting of Rival Angels with Gabrielle and Michael: Marina Ortiz.
Are you sure it’s not you? You’re good at being mean to people.
.. if it is you I want to know how to do that trick of carrying your own personal dark shadow around it hide in. It’s neato.
Some folk might be upset if Callie is in there and I’m not. It looks like maneuvering behind my back and changes the level of the game. But they should think it through. Why should I get tarnished by this stink when she can do the dirty work?
You’re quite right about her being mean. She hasn’t been the same since she left England and had to shave her under arms and legs, not to mention shower regularly. Ok… We’re still working on that last. I promise.
Scuffles and Champ make great cases for who’s in there.
“Some folk” indeed. Realising your tenuous grip on things is finally slipping away, are you?
You have meetings with the people you need to meet with. If she needed someone to make a lot of noise and cling desperately to a position she’s no longer worthy of, you’d undoubtedly be in there.
COULD it be me? Yes, although for the same reasons listed above, I don’t think I fall into “trusted advisor” status either, though I WAS in her box at the end of the show, so maaaaaaybe 😀
The other argument against me though is that while I’ll take care not to openly defy Gabrielle, there’s really nothing in it for ME to enact her vengeance against Sabrina, so she’d have to be offering some quid pro quo there. I don’t think Gabrielle would care to be indebted to me in that fashion. Surely she has someone she can simply order to do the deed?
And speaking of quid pro quo, whether that’s me or not, I definitely have the dark shadow thing down (no, not Brenda, she’s a dippy pale red shadow.)
Phhht! Dark Shadows? You’ve been in my shadow so long I could call you rerun. But somehow ‘retread’ fits better.
Scuffles, don’t let her fool you. She’ll hang on your coat tails too – once you get some *grins
I wasn’t thinking ‘trusted advisor’, more ‘hired thug’.
Right, but I don’t think Gabby’d show her self-pitying side/lament Sabrina’s poor decision-making in front of someone she’s just farming out a job to.
Now wouldn’t be a real hoot if you find out it is you in the room?
Oh I know whether it’s me or not. What you’d have to ask yourself is ‘why would she mislead us?’
Well, got another surprise for us, I see. Will it be Sun or someone else? I’d love to see a rematch between Sabrina and Coco, but that looks more like Sun’s hairstyle. Plus this would give Albone a great opportunity to heap on that dramatic tension. Okay…we’ll wait! And in the meantime, check out Bret Harte: Wrestling With Shadows. This reminds me of that.
If Gabs wanted revenge she should do it my way. Put on a smile, say she is sorry. It won’t happen again. Then make all of Sabrina’s matches really dorky ones so fans get bored with her and any that count make sure her opponent is better than her so she gets overwhelmed. And last of all no treats for her.
Don’t give up on Cocoa vs Sabrina. 😉
If I had the dough they’d be the pair of which I’d commission a drawing!
Of all the things in this scenario, this is what she choices to take a hard line on? The one thing in the God awful mess that went right?
*face palm*
I no longer respect the hierarchy at Rival Angels, so Gabs might have to get used to people not doing what she wants.
*ponders*

Baby ‘Brina Watch!
Due to my considerable influence, my little Sabrina-Ripley heartily approves with the peppiest of upbeat music, making with the happy sounds that make me happy to XD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-Z9PKIOEwI
She continues to require my help to “wave her hands in the air like she just don’t care!” X3
Baby Brina knows where it’s at. Safety Dance is still playing as I type this. XD ‘Awesome to the MAX.’
Safety Dance is required listening XD
Hehehe, Next on the list, dressing up in matching Cheerleader uniforms and dancing to “Oh Mickey”
Cheerleader duo is on the way. Stay out of my computer! Oh wait, you meant Sammie and Baby Brina. Right then. XD
Well, there goes getting back into the boss good side. 🙁
Because seriously, if I think that is Sun in that last panel, then all hope is truly lost for Sabrina to gain ANY ALLIES out of this whole mess. 🙁
Honestly, what was wrong with doing the right and moral thing out of all of this ? 🙁
Not to split hairs but I think Golden Girl still has Sabrina’s back. XD But yeah, her list of allies is shrinking.
Hells yeah, I gots my ‘Brina Girls back! I have the boots of considerable ass kicking ready and willing to go X3
And if your circle of friends starts shrinking because you did the right thing, that’s not a reflection on you, that’s a poor reflection on them.
It’s times like these that you find out who your friends really are.
Heh, looks like ol’ Strappy Boots is trying to take a hit out on Brina. Doesn’t she know that when it’s Boss vs Incredibly Popular Wrestler, Boss always ends up looking foolish?
That IS the way of these things. O_o
Here are my 3 guesses.
Chloe DeSade: Promised her job back if she takes care of Sabrina for good.
Coco: Because betraying Sabrina wasn’t enough.
Sun: Sometimes the worst enemy is the best friend.
One of these is definitely wrong. The other two….
Could also be that head honcho guy from Japan. Forgot his name though.
Atlas McNair and Matsumora were the guys running BRA and the MWA.
Atlas hasn’t been much good since he shrugged. (Sorry, couldn’t resist!)
Well that’s ominous… o_0
As I understand it, it’s a fairly common practice to mete out punishment in this business by having one of the locker room’s appointed (self or otherwise) enforcers smack the offending party around for real in the context of a match. By way of an example, I remember Bradshaw stiffing the hell out of Perry Saturn for dropping a couple jobbers on their heads and just generally being dangerous in the ring.
A lot of speculation going on as to who the mysterious shadow person is. Despite her being angry with Sabrina, I don’t think Sun would turn on her like that, especially when you consider that Sun is a part of Damage Inc., and Yvonne Carmichael has exhausted a lot of resources to try and bring Sabrina into the fold. I should think Yvonne would balk at the idea of ruining that investment. Chloe DeSade is an interesting and plausible idea, as is Marina.
OR
It could be somebody completely out of left field, or a new character entirely. Remember, the boss alluded to Gabrielle’s ex-husband earlier. Either way, I expect the next update to be the big reveal to close out this chapter.
I was hoping hoping ‘Brina would go under the mask, join Hell’s Belles and call herself “The Last Cheap Shot” and land ultra kicks on anyone that dares challenge Cat for the TV title… Well it would be good….
You haven’t been taking those “herbal” supplements, have you?
Sabrina may not get fired, but do not like of what will happen to Sabrina.
In the old days, a wrestler who went against the script could expect to face every enforcer in several states until the booker got his pound of flesh.
Definitely NOT unheard of.
It’s either Sun or Marina. “The Ultragirl has a bill to pay”? “Can you collect on that for me, or is that a problem for you”? The mysteries aren’t that deep. Either creative has nothing for Sun at the moment and has to remind Ultrafool who the better wrestler is or Marina is going to show Ultradolt all the reasons why she should trust her when she tells Sabrina what to do while giving her the wrestling lesson she has needed since the beginning of her career. Either way, maybe Sabrina can finally learn how to wrestle.
This was well deserved, Ultramaniacs. All she had to do was pin Kat, get the belt, and get out. But now was the time to not trust the person who held her hand throughout her Rival Angels career? That doesn’t sound like someone who deserves a main event push; that sounds like someone who deserves to be tossed into the Midcarder tar pits and forced to fend for herself.
Oh stupid Mo Chen – it has to be Cocoa!
Could be Krystin. Think of it, it’s her time then Sabrina comes back. She shows Sabrina what it takes to be top dog.
All for the small price of “supplied” Oxycotton to dull the pain in her wrist.
