Page 98 – Dead Heat
In case you didn’t know, this is Sabrina and Loretta’s fourth time meeting in the ring, so there’s a certain familiarity between the two and neither is about to give each other an inch. That’s only going to make things tougher for both of them going forward. That being said, Loretta finally lost her cool on this page, which is something unheard of in their first three matches. So far, Sabrina’s doing a good job. 😉
Look for things go get more intense as this match continues!
New VOTING INCENTIVE, something a little different than I usually post. Give it a whirl, you’ll be glad ya did.
Thanks to everyone who emailed or posted their thoughts here in the comments section about what they thought of the first 100 pages and what they’d like to see in the future (from Monday’s post). Not too late to chime in… Let me know what you’ve liked so far! Do you have a favorite storyline? Favorite character? Least liked character? Anything I could be doing better? Anything you’d like to see? Match wise or in story, let me know what you think!!
I really like the panel being used here.. 8 panel.. nice.. Excellent details..
I can’t believe it.. it’s unbelievable Sabrina showed her quickness. I never saw Sabrina that fast, in the fatal four. but she’s not fast enough for Sun.. and surely Sabrina really guarantee that, Loretta never face this ultragirl and showed something new.
Hahahha…”Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini got the advantage on Loretta in this match.. Sabrina used her speed advantage and played Loretta abit of mind game, so Loretta won’t be able to focus. panel 8: Loratta just lost it. she’s piss as hell..
Sabrina really learned something about her loss to Loretta, she study Loretta’s wrestling pattern.. I can say is that Sabrina is good no doubt about it, she reads Loretta like an open book, and Sabrina now knows that when Loretta ground her, she’ll be in trouble. That’s why Sabrina quickly rolled out from Loretta’s wristlock and countered it with an armlock, then Loretta countered Sabrina’s armlock to a necklock, in which Sabrina escape the neck lock that Loretta use on her on Panel 5. taking too long escaping that move will weaken Sabrina neck are . Sabrina really I do mean quickly escape the Loretta is deep trouble. seriously in deep trouble. Loretta’s game plan are now in scrap.
Looking at Panel 8: Loretta is piss off. could it the neck update. Loretta attack Sabrina. then Sabrina hits her with an ultrakick, then the ultrasplash.. surely game over 1…2….3..
I really think Loretta must change strategy, try brawling Sabrina.. or maybe just get out of the ring, and go back to locker room. and give this win to Sabrina. then challenge her again, in the future when Loretta’s ready. since this is a grudge match, maybe Loretta will challenge Sabrina. a match will be (Last Woman Standing on a street fight match)
I think, even if..I do mean IF.. Loretta will be facing “Red Jen” Jennifer Needles. so that will be worst for her, even injuring Loretta if she faced Jennifer. And losing to Sabrina here will be humiliating for her. so there’s really a no win situation for Loretta.
if Sabrina wins. Sabrina will be facing Jennifer Needles. how can Sabrina plan out, if she doesn’t know her opponent, in which she never faced and studied the moves. and surely I think Jennifer got the speed advantage to Sabrina this time.
I kinda think in scenario if it ever happen.. like Loretta VS Sabrina.. the audience cheer and roar!! LET’S GO DIAZ!!!CLAP CLAP.. LET’S GO DIAZ!!!..
then when “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini come in the entrance… the audiece booo’ed her..
Coz I think, Sabrina takes energy from the audience. what if the audience won’t back her? will Sabrina do great?
by the way, about the merchandise.. “Ultragirl” Sabrina Mancini had a merchandise of “Ultra cool” T-shirt, while Sun had Ninja Princess. Loretta had a merchandise, maybe a picture of Loretta making a punching bag out of Sabrina.. hehehh. I don’t know.. 😀
Very nice page! And some cool classic wresting moves we get to see here.
But I think you mesed up the commentators’ speach bubbles. The first bubble in panel 1 and the one inpanel 3 should be Jeff talking, right? so they ought to have the red outline, rather than the orange one. In panel 8 I’m not quite sure. The first comment might also be Jeff’s (it sounds like him).
MGC, I’m happy you liked the page and the layout! I knew I wanted a fast and furious, action packed page so I’m glad that got over well. Don’t expect Loretta to give up on this match though, she’s not a veteran yet, but she’s cagey. It would take some bizarre turn of events for Loretta to be cheered and Sabrina to be booed, but I can say that presently, Sabrina wouldn’t do as well if the fans weren’t with her. I don’t think we’ll see a Loretta ‘Ultragirls-as-punching-bag’ anytime soon either.
Oh man, thanks JackAce for the save with the eagle eyes! Panels 1 and 3 were a whoops. Panel 8 is good, but I can easily see where that could be Jeff speaking. I tried to break it up at the end and have Jeff and Dawn not alternate speaking as much. I’m glad you liked the page and thanks again!
I’m really glad that this match has gotten started and I can’t wait for it to continue! For a favorite character? I’ll say Sun, I just have a soft spot for ninjas and high flyers! And the fatal four way, I thought was an amazing match and I get the feeling Loretta vs Sabrina IV is gonna be even more awesome. 100 pages coming soon? I hope Rival Angels lasts a lot longer than that!
Speaking of grudge match.. I don’t know. I just thought of this, Sabrina VS Loretta won’t end at this point. since it’s a grudge match, I really think there will be a rematch happen. and I just thought of this ending. could it be. Sabrina VS Loretta’s match end up in double count out. I don’t know.. I just thought some weird stuff happen in wrestling. so in that case both Loretta and Sabrina won’t fight Jennifer Needles. 😀
I kinda thinking of Sabrina being booo’ed by the crowd, if the match happen to be on Loretta’s home town.. I really really like to see Sabrina’s reaction there.. 😀
Thanks for the comments Rod and for weighing on some of the questions I threw out. I appreciate it. I’m hoping that Sabrina/Loretta IV is the best match yet!
Well, MGC, I’m not above finishing a match like that, so it certainly could happen. It would take a great deal more than being in Loretta’s hometown for Sabrina to get booed. I’m sure Loretta would go out of her way to get the crowd against her anyways. 😛 But as we know, Sabrina feeds off of the crowd and I do believe we’ll get an answer to the question eventually of what Sabrina’s reaction will bee if she’s not cheered.
I see the announcers have another duty: timekeeping. From their remarks we see the panels are taking place in fairly rapid sequence. Very good depiction of flowing motion without resorting to cliches ( blurred images, ‘speed’ lines, etc as seen in The Flash comic )
Good title… each girl attempts, and gets out of, two holds. The most awesome hold break is Sabrina in panel six; it is clear she went from pure reflex as there is no time to think this out.
Some of the action is left to the viewer to imagine… Sabrina is keying up to leap to her feet in panel seven; we don’t need to see this to know this has happened by panel eight. The announcers tell us about the transition between panels three and four; evidently Sabrina has pulled Loretta to the floor. Between panels four and five Loretta spins counterclockwise to scissor Sabrina… again we don’t see this but we know it happens ( if Lorettta had gone clockwise it would have taken too long and Sabrina could roll out of it ).
A lot of the facial expressions seem right out of stage acting… the highlighted body language conveys what each girl feels whitout resorting to thought boxes ( besides, the girls don’t have time to think ).
Neither girl seems to have hit the other very hard… this is shaping up to be an endurance contest at this point. Later they will take hits and whichever can stay focused and want to win will have the advantage. I think an opportunity to illustrate increasing pain intensity is coming up…
As to M.G.C.’s comment on Loretta giving up… not for a while yet. This isn’t an overconfident Brooke and Krystin vs the Catgirls, this is Loretta who can’t stand Sabrina and is no doubt ticked she’s not featured on the billboards and commercials. Loretta isn’t quitting short of LOTS of little pain stars and thunderbolts coming from everywhere on her body.
If the match goes on evenly for a while, or if Sabrina looks to be winning, I’d like to go on Steel Folding Chair watch. I’m not sure *who* would pull this stunt, but the Stark Chair of Displeasure is likely to appear in these circumstances…
Stay tuned, and keep on votin’, folks!
I’ve never been good at picking a favorite, but I do like Sabrina and Sun. I don’t like Brooke and Vincent. And I’d like to learn more about Krystin.
I agree with Roller Derby Fan; showing the highlights of action is good. Showing every single move would get tiresome. Each shot on this page shows action; it implies what comes before and after. It’s very dynamic. Keep up the good work, Albone.

Thanks for your well thought comments, Roller Derby Fan! I’m really pleased with how the page is received, and not from a ego standpoint, but relieved that I didn’t make the page confusing. 😛 I really do try and leave some room for the reader to interpret just because your imaginations are so powerful. Gotta use it. And I’m also glad that not showing every moment is working out because that helps in keeping the story flowing. Pain stars and lighting bolts to come! 😉 And about the steel chair… they’ve showed up in the first two fight cards, can a trifecta of steel chairs be off the mark? And thanks for the voting plug, I really appreciate it!
😉
Thanks for weighing on A Mouse on who you like in Rival Angels. Sabrina and Sun seem to be fan favorites and for good reason. More to come on Krystin too, but not so quickly. And thanks for sharing about the page too. Comments can only help me. So keep reading and commenting and I’ll keep the Rival Angels ride rolling along!
