Page 259 – Flashpoint
I know a lot of you haven’t been happy with Sun’s actions even if you thought she was right. She finally did go too far for Sabrina’s tastes and Sabrina, for the lack of a better term, snapped. And we seem to have a reversal of fortune here with Sabrina being the aggressor now and Sun on the defense. Marina looks like she wants to jump in to stop things, but it looks like she’s going to let this play out a little longer. At this rate though, there wont’ be much left of these BFF’s!
Be sure to come back on Wednesday to see what happens next!

Discussion (36) ¬
*mutters* Sun is giving MAJOR mixed messages here, and I’m getting sick of her. Last strip, she says ‘you know I love you’, and what can’t be five minutes later she says ‘I’m done with you jokers’. Well? Do you love Sabrina or not? Are you her friend or not? Because she seems to be saying both, and that’s aggrivating as hell. Is she trying to retain her friendship or is she cutting it off? Because if the former, it comes off as trying to have it both ways. You can’t love someone and stab them in the back. You don’t treat them with scorn the way Sun is now. The two don’t compute together.  Plus, her trying to walk out on her was something I’d never have ascribed to Sun.
Namely, it was gutless. You don’t get to drop a bomb like that and walk away. You don’t admit you betrayed your BFF’s trust and just say ‘seeya’. If you’re going to do that, and you aren’t ready to face the consequences of that… you’re an abject coward. If Sun really does love Sabrina, she OWES her more than that — you can’t just brush off a friendship like that. And if for some bizarre reason she thinks she can do that and stay friends, then she’s more messed up than I imagined.
I’m still iffy on where all this is going… without people to interact with in a not-hostile manner, this comic is still looking very bleak in the future.
OMG!!! Sabrina executed fireman carry then to a michinoku driver on Sun.. I smell Ultrasplash next!! just like episode 2.. Sun will be knockout..
Â
Sun acting tough coz of Damage Inc..
Â
I really want to question panel 2: Sun asked Sabrina “would you have help me if you knew it was my ticket out of this side show?”
Will Sabrina help? or not since panel 3, Sabrina remained silent..
Â
Panel 3: is that tear on Sabrina..
Â
Sun is not a true friend.. calling Sabrina a joker.. boooooo!! M.G.C. says to Sun “Sabrina is not a Joker!! Brooke is! not Sabrina!!” Booooo! to Sun!!
so that BFF is just an act…
Â
Sun first fires everything at Sabrina, physical and emotionally, then now walk away… Good for Sabrina to destroy Sun.. look at Sun at panel 4.2 and 4.3 Sun is scared to be destroyed.. Sun is not scared of firing hurting words on Sabrina, but scared to get hit!! Sun is scared facing consequence what she’s done..
YEAH!! ULTRAGIRL!!
good thing! I’m not a Sun’s fan anymore!!
Boooo to Sun!!
Agree on Adon!! second paragraph!!
Â
Sun being gutless..
Â
“Tougest Coward” .. Sun act tough!! ninja’d this!! ninja’d that!! but wouldn’t back it up! and a disgrace being a shinobi! if Akira saw this.. Akira would be sad, not because Sun betrayed Sabrina.. it’s because Sun wouldn’t  take the consequence,  she fired everything on Sabrina even the kitchen sink, then would walk away, thinking that Sabrina won’t retaliate!
Â
Sun is telling Sabrina at episode 256 “But I don’t know if you have the will!”
Proves at this episode that Sabrina got the “will” while Sun don’t
Â
Sabrina rarely used a fireman carry to a michinoku driver.. Sabrina executed it on Sun coz, Sun is lighter..
Â
The ultimate “will” will be on the next chapter! Sabrina must ‘ultrasplash’ Sun.. maybe 630 splash on Sun..
hmmm.. here’s I think for the next episode..
after the ultrasplash.. Sun will be unconscious, as Marina, Krystin and Brooke walked into the ring. Marina, Krystin and Brooke approach towards to Sabrina. Sabrina turned her back and look last glimpse of Sun, as Sun stand up and still daze. Sun looked towards to Sabrina with bitter anger! as Sabrina, Marina, Krystin and Brooke walked out from the ring, then Sun closes her fist, and rolled out of the ring as well. as Sun, and Sabrina parted ways.
Â
just a guess.. no harm to Lora Innes… 🙂
All I can Say is wow great work and keep it up. I wanted to see Sabrina vs Brook but this is even better
Well now! Sun had to say bye. But the dramatic way she chose may have turned against her. Sabrina powered that bomb with a whole LOT of anger. Sun could be hurt and out of action for a while. And this turn of events might hurt her chances with Damage, Inc. as well.
Great story! And great art too!
I’m quite happy with how the story is running because we’re seeing links to Sun’s loner and aggressive tendencies as seen in the part of the story covering how Sun grew up.
Once again, Sun’s problem is that Sabrina was never going to be anything more than a fair-weather friend and her reactions in ring during the last match reflect that. First the reassuring talk to keep Sabrina on board just long enough to secure Sun’s ticket into Damage Inc combined with her new experiences with Sabrina in having a friend who’ll take her to theme parks and our for a laugh contibute to an image of someone who is very confused about how to react to someone who gives her unconditional respect and friendship.
In this case, Sun chose to react aggressively and to cut off contact as in her mind, this will only be a dead weight on her chances with Damage Inc (which by the way I doubt Sun trusts them at all either).
This in turn triggers Sabrina’s instinct to react against those who cause turbulence in a team and now we’re seeing how Sabrina deals with those who betray the team and the cause.
Note as well that there are still characters in the storyline who react with the central characters of the Upstarts without confrontation. This series is getting interesting and we’re going to see that classic wrestling storyline: the two friends set against each other by a sickly combination of power, greed and the corruption that it brings.
Not much of a defense if she’s about to get planted on her head.
Besides, Sun may not be right, but at least her actions aren’t as bad as Brooke’s. That little hussy should be the one getting dropped on her head.
Not really happy with the dialogue right now…Lora is a good writer, but it doesn’t seem to ring true with Sun’s “real” dialogue or earlier personality. Too formal, for one thing. Also too cold. She isn’t a DYNASTY bitch, for crying out loud. I also disagree that Sabrina was or could be a “fair-weather” friend. If anybody’s “fair-weathering” it, it’s Sun.Â
I did note the fear on Sun’s face when Sabrina started her retaliation. Sun knows she’s a betrayer and fears what she’s in for.Â
Just a suggestion: Lora might look a little more closely at earlier strips and try to figure out some of the characters’ speech patterns. Just might make it a bit more convincing. At least, to me. This one’s dramatic but it seems too forced. Too…artificial. I’m sorry.
Ahh, Wise Monkey, but how do we know Brooke hasn’t been dropped on her head a few times already? It would explain a few things.
But this is the problem with burning your bridges, if you don’t get the heck out of there fast, you’re gonna get burned right back. At least Marina is there and should be able to stop it before it gets into injury territory.
suns flexible and tough, she could avoid most of the impact and even if not it doesnt mean shes out for the count, im looking forward to a bit more action from these two before their ‘sparring’ is done
Adon, I think what this page is trying to show is that Sun has the upper hand. Â She’s the big dog, in no uncertain terms. Â She stands powerful in the first panel and she seems intent on dropping her bombshell and leaving everyone to think on it, until Sabrina has had enough. Â Sun’s initial critique of Sabrina’s wrestling focus escalated into something much more than anyone could’ve anticipated, and with Sun basically in the driver’s seat felt that she could lay into Sabrina. Â She was definitely mean about it, but when you fight with your BFF, they seem to be the worst kind of fights because they both think they’re 100% right, and I think you’ll agree with that here. Â It’s also the bummer of only being able to update three times a week! Â Fights, especially with friends won’t be rosey or friendly, but Sabrina’s going to find out that she has more friends then she thought.
Great memory MGC, with Sabrina’s last usage of the Mitchanoku Driver. Â Could history repeat itself with an Ultrasplash? Â No harm in trying to figure out what happens next. Â It’s going to be a doozy! Â It’s hard to say what’s going to happen with Sun and Sabrina and how it will affect the rookie house. Â It’s probably a good guess that this isn’t over.
Hey Patric! Â Thanks for the nice comments. Â We’ll keep on, keeping on. 😉
Thanks Champ! Â Sun got a bit too arrogant for her own good there. Â Trying to have the last word like that really lit a fire under Sabrina. Â I can’t say that Sabrina isn’t thinking so much right now….more like reacting than anything so its not out of the realm of possibility that someone could get hurt. Â Maybe you or Marina will get in there to break it up? 😉
Prestwick, you laid it out very well.  Both of these girls personalities are front and center mixed in with fire and anger, so we got some real fireworks with some potential long term effects.  Just about in any story (Lost, Heroes, wrestling) the ‘fighting friends’ dynamic is hugely powerful which is why I think whether you think Sun  is right, Sabrina is right, or in the middle, it’s having an impact.  Glad you’re enjoying it!
Ha ha Wise Mankey, good point! Â I think Sabrina would disagree and say that Sun’s lying hurts more than Brooke’s because of how close Sun and Sabrina have come. Â Brooke could probably use a head dropping! Â She is after all nominated for 2009 Antagonist of the year!
Hey Darkmark! Â Sun is being very cold right now and laying it on, well WAS, until Sabrina snapped. Â I agree with you about ‘fair weathering.’ Â I would go so far as to say neither is fair-weather and in fact, is the reason why they’re fighting so hard against each other. Â You caught a subtle look on Sun…she’s like a deer in headlights and is going to need quite a bit to get away from a riled up Sabrina.
Cookie Ogre, the girls may need some special cookies to smooth things out! Â Marina is watching very closely, but giving them a chance to work things out between themselves. Â Its also possible that Krystin and Brooke get in there to break things up too, though they seem stunned by everything breaking down.
Ninja’d by T-M!
Expect more action before the sparring/discussion/argument/fighting is done!
haha! i am the master ninja of RA commenting 😉
”GO ULTRA-GIRL KICK SUN’S ASS” 😀 Well Sun deserve that reaction and Brina needed to do something here. No way Sun can say all those things on Sab and just go like that.. she betrayed her best friend and trowed up their friendship…
I agree with Brenda, maybe Sun could be hurt cause Brina was angered (and i understand her) when she power bombed Sun. Nice observation…I realize here of the experience of Brenda as wrestler cause her to notice things we dont.
great arts and moves like usual.
Good to see Sabrina giving Sun a power bomb for what she did to her. I knew Sabrina will fight back.
Yea I am gonna have to agree with the “that ain’t Sun” people again on this pannel. Strongely disagree with prestwick.. Sun is hot (temper wise), feeling in the right, maybe a bit upset with herself (disappoint).. so kinda just grossly assumed Sabrina wouldn’t have helped her in pannel 3 because imo makes her feel better about her actions. I still feel really bad for Sabrina.. thrust into the limelight.. still very green.. a bit too much of a show boat.. too much of a babyface maybe for her own good.. trapped in a house with 3 heels (yes I consider Krystin a heel also if anyone remembers Stevie Richards in Right to Censor in 99-01).. lost her bf.. almost lost her dream job.. and is now losing her best friend. Sabrina SHOULD snap.. they should have to tear her off Sun.. no one no matter how NICE could take all of that. This is what should happen in the next pannel:
Sun is down for the count… Marina, Krystin and Brooke come into the ring to hold Sabrina back (who pretty much screams at sun saying she WOULD have helped her get into damage inc.) Brooke saids something snarky.. Sabrina makes seperation.. boot to Brookes gut.. RANHEI.. wheels on Krystin and hits her with a super kick. Points at Krystin “Thats for sucking”.. Points at Brooke “Thats for trying to hurt me”.. kneels over a dazed Sun.. holds her face up “And thats for breaking my heart, you just got Ninja’d.. B!t<h”.. leaving EVERYONE in the place SHOCKED.
Now that would make me cheer.. remember.. in sabrinas character or not.. the girl has to be close to SNAPPING.. we’re talking “her against the world snapping”.. and I think this little wake up call will set her on the proper road to being a real star.
Wait stop the press!!
I was wondering! since four days have past in Rival Angels times.. could it have been! that Damage Inc, called Sun on her cellphone, and made another mission on Sun.. like ‘Secretly’ destroy Sabrina! so you can be a member of damage inc.. Â since we’re been focus on this day, we didn’t focus on the last four days..
Â
we still don’t know the relation between Damage Inc and Hells Belles.. if my hunch is right, Damage Inc infiltrated upstarts..
well well well Sabrina the baby face shows she not so pure right now going after Sun while ehr back is turned.people might not like how Sun acted but she thefirst to be smart enough to see the Upstarts are a time bomb that was just waiting to blow up on them. Brooke would stabd anyof them in the back at any time, Lrystin doesn’t care about anyone there and Sabrina too rightousto do what is smart.
Drew!! I tootaly want that happen :D. And btw i think your right, at this point everybody could snap, even Sabrina. Your scenario where we see Sab kicking ass to all the upstart is very nice, i hope something kinda like that will happen, at least i hope to see Sab to snap more than now, be very angry and tell what she have on her heart. I think Sun is out for now, after that move (and im sure Sab didnt hold back or care to not hurt Sun) So if more wrestling action come in that scene that will be with others.
You know, Sun deserved that. She could have said something like, “Hey Brina, you know I always wanted to join Damage Inc, can you help me win this tag match so I can join?” Sabrina might have done it, she goes a long way for her friends. Then they could have been personal friends even if Sabrina and Sun go separate ways professionally. But Sun lied, used Sabrina, and then pulled this shit instead. Hopefully she gets her ass kicked a bit before this gets broken up.
Anyway, my prediction is that Sabrina wins the TV title, and Sun goes after her for it.
Holy cow I think we might be taken a swerve!! I was thinking here thinking.. thats not sun.. thats not sun.. well in wrestling USUALLY if it seems to unreal to be true it is. Do you think maybe this is sun and Sabrina’s master plan to lure Hell’s Belles into a false sense of security. Sabrina has the belles SO hot that the same trick might a second time esp with something as serious as a m. driver on sun.. that would be MAGICALLY.. and I would applude 🙂
I’m not normally one to firmly get behind Sabrina and what she represents but allow me to say…It’s about damn time! Ultra Girl has gotta show some spine and friend or not, you can only take being walked all over so much until you just snap. Sun’s getting what’s coming to her. The wishy washy attitude she has displayed during this sparring session has caused me to lose a great deal of respect for the character.
I actually think the way Sun is written this chapter is pretty accurate. People tend to be irate and wishy-washy when at a crossroads. I like the firemans carry, its pretty much in every form of wrestling from Greco to Judo, I kinda like the simple moves. It looked like Sabrina put all her weight into that driver, showing thats shes pretty pissed, elevating an already volatile situation. It looks like losing her friend was the button that made Sabrina snap, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her be this serious in the ring. Sun could be acting this way on purpose to bring more out of Sabrina…..
T-M, clearly you’ve trained with Akira Superstar.
Svan, as you can see, Sabrina’s done taking and is now giving. 😛 She’s happy to have you in her corner.
It was just a matter of time, Adam. Â And it’s a Mitchanoku Driver, as opposed to a powerbomb but its just as effective.
Good comments and thoughts Drew. So much so that I’ll have to watch what how I respond. 😉 Â I think Sabrina has definitely taken all she can stands and she can’t stands no more. Â I think you’ll enjoy what’s coming up. Â As to the mega-swerve…..THAT would be amazing, wouldn’t it? 😉
MGC, it’s a good thought that Damage Inc is somehow behind this, but hopefully I’m not spoiling anything by saying that they don’t have anything to do with it. Â If anything, Yvonne would prefer that Sun keep her ties with Sabrina in case they ever needed something from her down the road.
Jenn, I always enjoy your pragmatic point of view. Â The facts you brought up can’t really be disputed, though I don’t think anyone would fault Sabrina for retaliating on Sun, back turned or not. Â After all, she did spin Sun around first…. XD
Very true, Ken! Â Hopefully, when cooler heads prevail we might get a proper explanation from Sun and all of the shadiness. Â Clearly, it was a bad choice to lie to her BFF. Â Nice prediction too for the future!
RAWF, don’t hold it against Sabrina too much. Â Sun was hitting her with a lot of painful truth (and kicks) so it was a lot for Sabrina to process. Â As you can see, that time is over and Sabrina’s way pissed.
Ninja’d by Rorschach!
Very cool observations! Â I don’t mind telling you that Justin (who wrote the Sun origin) and I read over Lora’s story multiple times and were happy with the portrayal. Â Being trained by Kyle Pallas will do that to you. 😛 Â But yeah, Sun’s trying to figure out how to move on without Sabrina and it looks like she picked the most painful way possible. Â And Sabrina, well she’s devestated and taking that emotion and channeling it right back at Sun. Â Really, it’s pretty painful for both of them. Â And I think you’re right that Sabrina has never been so serious.
Albone, you keep reiterating that it’s painful for Sun too… but frankly, you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t sympathize with her. SHE is the one at fault here, period. There are any number of ways to give news to a friend they may not want to hear, and this is about the lousiest way to accomplish that. The fact is that she chose the point where it would be most devastating to Sabrina, took a decision that could have been justified somewhat as being nothing personal — not the lying, but joining Damage Inc. — and made it personal by belittiling Sabrina in the process. She could have had the courage to talk it out with her friend, but assumed way too much. Now she — and I blame her for this, having been the aggressor here from the start — has possibly shattered a beautiful friendship because she didn’t have the guts to own up about her intentions before. And I say again — she said not long ago that ‘Sabrina knew she loved her’. Does she now? Because her behavior here thoroughly goes against that.
It’s almost like Sun doesn’t really know how to treat a friend. And if she doesn’t display some real remorse after this — and I mean on panel, not presumed or implied — I’m going to remain utterly contemptuous of her.  Which is pretty impressive considering that not long ago I liked her and probably would have remained a fan after she went heel if she showed a tiny amount if personal integrity when it came to dealing with her friend.
I guess the reason I’m upset here is that I’m running out of people to root for. Brooke was never really someone I could support from the beginning. Krystin’s behavior has made it very hard to sympathize with her, and Sun has managed to erode just about all of my goodwill. That leaves Sabrina, and honestly I preferred it when there was more than one protagonist. She’s the only likeable Upstart left, IMO.
I will say that to understand why Sun chose the worst possible time and place to break it to Sabrina that she was leaving, you will have to see where Sun is coming from and this highlights her flaws as a person.
Â
Yes, she sould talk it out, of course she would but then would she even value negotiation when I doubt she even trusts anyone to begin with. I’m not deliberately using a racial stereotype here but this is like negotiating with Kim Jong Il here, Adon. Sun suspects treachery and alterior motives by nature because that is what she’s had to grow up with in her career as a Wrestler.
Â
Again, I wouldn’t look much into the whole ‘Sabrina knew she loved her’ business as this was said after she had shook hands on the deal with Damage Inc. Remember that we’re seeing these “behind the scenes” moments like we would see wrestlers interacting with each other backstage when we’re watching RAW or TNA iMPACT for example.
Â
At the end of the day though you are all right, Sun is the person to blame for this mess but it down to her flaws as a person rather than any scriptwriting flaws that have come to this point.
Albone, by the time these two are done they’re gonna need more than just cookies. Assuming that they keep it out of injury territory, they’re both probably going to need hot towels, ibuprofen smoothies, and a chiropractor. That said, I’ll get some peanut butter & butterscotch on standby. Are either of them allergic to nuts?
Awesome turn of events!  It reminds me so much of the HHH heel turn in 1999 at Wrestlemania XV on then-best friend and DX Army comrade Sean Waltman (aka X-Pac).  So much emotion between Sun and Sabrina.  The dialogue seems to definitely capture what some ordinary wrestlers (jobbers and workers) are willing to do to reach the next level (stardom). Excellent job up to this point, and I can’t wait for what you have in store down the road.
Hey Adon, I think I meant that this is rough for Sun and emotionally it’s easier to show anger than sadness. Â But you’re right that Sun is definitely at fault here. Â This is very heel like behavior to her BFF, and that’s not cool. Â At all. There’s probably a hundred different ways that Sun could’ve handled this and she chose the worst way possible. Â It didn’t start out malicious, its just how it snowballed. Right now, it does seem like the entire world is against Sabrina and that’s a lonely spot to be in and even for the readers that empathize with Sabrina. Â Hopefully, this won’t spoil anything but you won’t have to worry about Sabrina being the lone protagonist. 😉
Right on, Prestwick! Â You got the heart of what’s going on. Â Sun’s blowup here was a while in the making, something we couldn’t have done without knowing her origin. Â I wish we could’ve gotten more into Kyle Pallas, as he was a rough and deliberate wrestler, so Sun learned from the best!
Ah Cookie Ogre, I am going to pass on that easy joke setup but just say that they don’t have any food allergies. 😛 Â I think they’ll need all of that plus the butterscotch and peanut butter. Â I know I could use some.
Caimaru! Â I’m glad you liked the story going on and that you’re digging the emotion between Sun and Sabrina. Â More to come on Wednesday!
i think krys is starting to tire of brooke though, ive said before they have little tying them together. theres a logical choice for who she turns to if her and goDDes break up
Â
and victoria could always do with another ally at that, id like to see some more from her
::sends Albone some cookies of his own, since if anyone’s earned it around there it’s him, and tosses one to M.G.C. because…well just because::
…. O… Kay… that’s IT. She is Cena’s younger sister or something. Totally.
No denying it now! She just gave Sun something that looks close enough to an FU. Or an AA. Either nomenclature works just fine.
From now on I’m thinking of her as Sabrina ManCena.
Is that a good thing? I don’t know if you noticed but this chapter was written by Lora Innes, a Rival Angels reader, but has never watched wrestling and has no idea who John Cena is.
I personally like to think she’s channeling Sting or Lita. I guess maybe Trish too. XD
