Chapter: Chapter 19 - The Big Night
Characters: Chloe De Sade, Sabrina Mancini
Jeff never gets more flustered than when he calls Sabrina’s matches. Odd, isn’t it? 😛
Voting Incentive!
Sabrina does her best ‘Edge’ impersonation on Wednesday. Vote to see if you think so too!
Well, I guess I’m the first commenter. Good page. There is such a thing as “heroic villainy” and it consists of the opposition being worthy of the hero(ine). I think Chloe qualifies, and she’s doing a good heel job here. Thanks.
I notice that Sabrina got tricked. Hey I put my weapon down so you put yours down. Sucker now I’ll kick your butt.
Congrats on being Number ! today Dark Mark.Â
*wince*
Yah, I probably would have broke the stick too.Â
*le sigh*
Stick it out ‘Brina! You’ll get the advantage again!
Breaking stick like that shows how tough she is.
Wow, Sabrina is ridiculously strong if she could break one of those over her knee. Apart from that, our view of the action is definitely abstract. Chloe could not have gone from her knees to grabbing and kneeing Sabrina with nothing between. The shift here is a bit jarring. Sabrina isn’t shown to overextend or leave a major opening – Chloe just goes from on her knees and panicked to dominant. Could’ve used a transition of some kind here.
I think the two-tone motion blurring in the background of that panel is supposed to show that while Brina was speaking, De Sade had already started charging in and was so fast she took Brina by surprise. I think…
Sabrina shouldn’t worry too much about getting busted open. After all, a couple of scars can be sexy – they’ll make her look mysterious and dangerous XD.
Sexy? Really? *wiggles and purrs
You are right a couple of frames could have made it smoother however if Albone put in every single possible frame the fight would last forever and that should not happen in a comic book unless it is a catgirl one.
I hate this page Chloe is NOT skilled enough to pull that off she does not have that level of talent. I call BS you dont go from crawling on the ground and cowering to bad ass that fast especially not if your chloe useless de sade.
There are techniques for moving very fast whilst on knees. But they take practice and strength. I think you’re right that  Chloe doesn’t have that. More likely we’re seeing the catalytic effect of her aversion to being on her knees before Brina.
The catgirls and water yield the same effect LoL
I would have broken the stick as well, over Chloe’s skull. I mean, she beat her up with a dumpster lid. It doesn’t get anymore embarrassing than that.
Now THaT CHloe’s magiC wand is broken, won’T sHe age really fasT?
Sorry abouT THe use of CapiTols; iT’s Time for a new keyboard…
i must agree Jeff+ Sabrina matches = comedic announcing gold.
and Chloe’s showing a remarkably unsuspected range of facial expressions based on the last update and the VI.
and i see Chloe’s finally starting to work on Brina’s bullseye right now- though i suppose given her near concussion from the Kat match Brina’s got two bullseyes if Chloe cann get to them. Brina’s going to wake up with “cage face” in the morning a this rate 🙂
Oooo this is a great chapter, boss. The expressions, geometry, positions, and moves work for me. The face against the cage had me wincing. I wonder if we’ll see some blood this early. Probably not.
The VI is a mystery to me though. I’m not sure what’s happening there. Looks good though!
On the VI, either Brina just speared Chloe OR Chloe was going for Jennifer’s Nosejob faceplant and Brina managed to counter at the last second… either way it no bode well for Chloe’s rump.
Honestly I’d like to see one of the upstarts have an easy match and I’d love it to be this match. Not every match for the main character needs to be a desperate battle it would be awsome if brina could put De Sade down easily I think.Â
Oh, Sabrina, that was a BAD move. You don’t break the kendo stick and give your opponent sharp, splintery edges to work with. You throw the stick out of the cage! That’s gonna come back to haunt you, I think…
Looks like De Sade has chosen what body part to work on to get Sabrina to quit. The VI looks interesting cause it seems that Sabrina all out physical tactic is still throwing De Sade for a loop, the question is can Sabrina sustain that in the long run?
Darkmark, you nailed it. Chloe is THE foil for Sabrina, at least currently. Maybe forever? ‘sides, it’d be kind of lame for Chloe to be a total noob in the ring. Â XD
Golden Girl, I know Sabrina loves and appreciates the support! And you know she’s always going to keep trying.
DragonMan, Styg, Tiffany, Snowy: Sorry the action is jarring from panel 2 to 3, but…Sabrina did invite Chloe with the ‘Bring It’ taunt. Adding a couple of frames to show Chloe getting up would’ve destroyed the ‘surprise’ element of panel 3.
DragonMan, heh, I remember Bo Jackson breaking a bat over his knee. O_o
Right you are, Jamal. Sabrina’s broken a kendo stick over Chloe’s head before, so she’s probably thinking, ‘been there, done that, got the T-shirt.’ XD
GhostEraser, it’s certainly a setback for De Sade. 😛
jpiv, I think Chloe’s that diabolic smart. She’s going to go for maximum pain potential. The arm and face are obvious tactics. Can Sabrina’s dome be far behind? She’ll need a cream for ‘cage face.’ LOL
Thanks Champ! Blood…you never can tell. 😉 As for the spear, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FCVpWdmmCk&feature=related
Tiffany, you’re right about every match can’t be a desperate battle, but this is the main event! Something in the making for a long time. I think Sun handled Sara Valentine fairly well, if you’re looking for an easier Upstart win.
That is a great point, Cookie Ogre. Those shards could easily cut a pretty face! However, Zack the referee doesn’t have qualms of kicking the slivers and pieces out of the ring, especially if Chloe is occupied. 😛
jabberwocky, that’s Sabrina’s rugby background kicking in. She’s a physical girl! As De Sade is finding out. 😛 But yeah, can Sabrina sustain that kind of offense?Â
Great panels bossman… I agree with Bren. You can also hear the chain link rattling as Chloe grinds Sabby into it. That’s not the issue as much as the hammerlock she’s cranking on. Chloe showing resilience after that corna’ pounding she took…
So much for “sticking it to her,” eh Sabrina?
See what I did there? Because of the stick? 😛
Well played. XD
Albone I just dont think De Sade is all that good a wrestler her showing talent now seems way forced, it really really strains belivability that De Sade has the talent to go toe to toe even with an injured Brina. All i can say is if de sade wins it will ruin the entire comic kat winning was bad enough, as in it really really sucked de sade winning would be too much.
A bat is relatively easy. It’s really rigid, and has a well-documented weak point. A shinai, on the other hand, is extremely flexible, and made of several strips of bamboo. Breaking one over your knee is a truly amazing feat of strength. I’ve never even heard of it before.
The transition thing just makes it a bit hard to follow. It goes from Sabrina in control and Chloe in full retreat immediately to the middle of a full offensive of Chloe’s. It’s almost like we went to commercial and came back two minutes later. Chloe went from cowering to knee range completely unopposed, while Sabrina was conscious, standing, and looking at her? I don’t get it.
Sabrina has shown she can break the kendo stick over De Sade’s back before. Plus, it’s very dramatic to break it over your knee. As for the jarring transition…I don’t know. There’s two panels of Sabrina daring De Sade to ‘bring it.’ Â Those two panels are more than enough time for her to strike at Sabrina. The fact that Sabrina didn’t block it goes to how skillful De Sade can be. Watch any MMA fight and you’ll see plenty of kicks and punches go unblocked with the full awareness of the person being struck as well.Â
Damn, Sabrina snapped that Shinai over her knee like it was a toothpick. Those things are so flexible, they’re damn near impossible to snap like that. It’ll take more than pushing her face into the cage to get her to say those two little words.
As long as she doesn’t use Sabrina’s face to clean the cage, everything will be ok. Loved the Chol-media quote, very Rock-ish, same with that stance. 🙂 You’re just breaking out all the classics Al… Now, if you get Undertaker Ol’School I’d totally by a print.
VINTAGE!!!
He is flustered because, all this time, Jeff is VINCENT! In a creepy Jeff-suit like in Men in Black.
Speaking of Vincent, it wouldn’t break my heart if we never heard from that cowardly pansy again.
Jeff’s not a heel commentator. He’s just a poor tweener commentator. It’s okay to be on the fence, Jeff.
oh i don;t know about that, seems about 90% heel 10% Brina to me. can’t think of any other faces he actually supports- Xtina maybe? i’d have to go back and look. he just seems a tweener because Brina’s in so many matches we see this side of Jeff more often.
Jeff was behind Sun in her match against Xtina, but he was with Sara Valentine against Sun. Jeff has been known to blush when Sabrina speaks to him. 😛
Yeah for once i have to agree with jpiv. Granted I do find some of his comments hilarious, but overall he’s a heel comentator its just hard NOT to cheer for Brina, especially when going up against a talentless hack like De Sade
