Winter Break – Aphrodite Reimagined
Jan31
Dave Reynolds continues his reimagining of the Upstarts with Brooke (Aphrodite) this update. If you note the large weapons, belt pouches and lack of feet, you can see he was channeling his inner Rob Liefeld. 🙂 He goes over his process for this image over HERE (need to be a $1 Patron to Dave’s page to see it. Totally worth it).
Next week, we’ll start up with the main story again!

Wow now that’s an extreme look for Brooke to have.
Brooke always about pushing her look to the -extreme.- See what I did there? XD
Extreme for Brooke? She would love to dress like that. Now we need a mini comic of her and her adventures. Maybe she can take on the Evil Wedding Cake Man !
These are all excellent thoughts and ideas. And I think a comic with these reimagined characters would be pretty epic.
Hey man. Stargazer is on hiatus now. If someone wants to pay me for it, I’ll draw a comic with them. 😛
Let’s get this thing kickstarted!!! XD
needs more pockets on the fishnets (nods wisely). and an arm starting from somewhere in the ribcage area for true Liefeld like styling
There’s never enough pockets or guns when it comes to Liefeld but Dave totally hit the ‘no feet’ rule. 😀
This feels more like Michael Turner was forced to draw a Rob Liefeld design.
Her spine is too anatomically correct to be pure Liefeld.
I definitely see that, though Turner had his own faults, like making midsections look like they were made of taffy. XD Still, really loved Turner’s stuff.
I wasn’t going so much for the style as much as the feel of the era. Like how when you see a Liefeld character, like say Shaft or Chapel… And then they’re drawn by a much more competent artist, like Jim Lee or Greg Capullo, it’s better drawn, but you can still tell Liefeld designed them.
And with Turner… I know it’s bad to speak ill of the deceased, but I was never a huge fan of his work. Everyone looked like they were striking a pose and there was often zero to no emotions in the faces. Occasionally they would crack a slight smile or a soft yell… But they never felt alive. Out of those second generation of 90s hot artists, like Jae Lee, he wasn’t in my top favorites. (I always preferred J. Scott Campbell and Joe Madureia.)
I can definitely see that about Turner. He was always good for a pinup piece or a variant cover, but as panel-to-panel storyteller… yeah.
Campbell rules, though. Danger Girl was exploding cheesy comic book fun at its finest.
Campbell’s stuff is dynamite. He has kind of leaned into an even more exaggerate-y style, which is fine, but I kind of dig his earlier stuff. Co-sign on Danger Girl for being cheesy fun. 🙂
LIEFELD!!!!!
At least you hid her feet.
Naturally!
