Winter Break – Mist of the Dragon
Jan26
Here’s another great image that Dave Reynolds did for the Winter Break. He took the great idea of reimagining the Upstarts at 90’s comic book heroes. He explains the process for how he came up with Sun HERE (need to be a $1 Patron to Dave’s page to see it. Totally worth it). But now with this one and the one he did for Def Tech, it makes you want to see what he’d do with them and good news: We got Brooke and Sabrina still coming. 🙂
HANGOUT!
Now that I got the books out from the Kickstarter, let’s do a Hangout this Sunday, January 28th at 11am CT. We’ll chat about the latest Rival Angels live action matches, the WWE Royal Rumble and everything else you want to talk about. 🙂

A GREAT cover! Doesn’t have the ’90’s impossible and impractical costume that Def Tech did, and is STILL dynamic and attractive.
No pockets on this one, either, though! I guess Brooke will have them all over? 🙂
The superheroes of that time period had invisible giant pocketts.
We get Brooke on Wednesday and you can see for yourself how Dave reimagined her. Though if you can’t wait, it did already go up for the Mid-Carders on Patreon. XD
Another good job of capturing that look…..
I know! She’s a much more attractive ‘Spawn.’
Honestly this captures Sun real well. Combine with her already Ninja skills and she’s a force to be reckoned with.
I know! It makes me want to see these characters in an actual story.
It’s the red sky that sells it. Very BTAS.
I’m loving the background skulls. BTAS was a wonderful time. The art style never caught on with me as a way to draw, but it was very powerful, especially back then. The Marvel Studios and CW hero shows were still a decade or so away.
BTAS was a HUGE influence on my art style. It’s branched a little away from that in the intervening years, but I still describe my style as “Bruce Timm by way of Walt Disney.”
Two styles that you can’t go wrong with, especially if you see some of Timm’s or any Disney creator’s life drawing studies. Outstanding stuff.
And I love your style. 🙂
Bruce Timm was always a huge influence on my artwork as well. Even though I’d since moved on from it YEARS ago, the techniques are so ingrained into my personal art so much that a few months back, I got asked to draw up some people’s OCs in the TAS style… And I did so without missing a beat.
Hell, even on my current comic project Stargazer Apogee: http://stargazercomic.thewebcomic.com/ I find myself occasionally resorting to the techniques again. 🙂
