Foxsports is reporting that Brett Favre is retiring. Wow, just wow.We all knew this day would eventually come, but it’s still surprising that the ‘Iron Man’ is hanging up his cleats. I guarantee you real money that Brett will make the Hall Of Fame on the first ballot when he’s eligible in 5 years. Believe that.
Aside from the crazy number of NFL records he holds, I began watching NFL football a couple of years before Brett was a Green Bay Packer. I am still an avid fan of football and a Packer fan, so that means that I’ve been watching Brett consistently for the last 17 years. On top of that he’s one of the best quarterbacks ever, so that just made it even more fun.
That’s not to say that Brett didn’t have his troubles. Many people that aren’t Packer fans seem to forget the reason why Brett also has the most interceptions in a career. There were some rough times for Brett and Packer nation, but we always hung tough. What made it harder on Brett was his wife’s cancer, which is thankfully now in remission. It’s going to take a long while to get used to the Packers, let alone football without #4, but I think its all very exciting when one door closes and another one opens.
I’m an optimist, so sue me.
Hopefully, we’ll still get to see Brett form time to time. I’d rather see him commentate or do analysis then half of these other assholes, but I have a feeling he’s going to be content mowing his lawn and maybe coach High School or something.
Anyways, thanks for the memories Brett.
